New Tesco overcharge policy

Firstly, I apologise if this has already been mentioned - I did do a search but didn't find anything amongst the thousands of posts about Tesco (not that I looked at all of them
).
I bought a PC game which was clearly marked at £2.84 but got home & realised I'd been charged £3.84.
Took it back to my nearest store & was told that overcharges can only be dealt with at the store you made the purchase from.
The store I bought from is 7 miles away. Do they really think it's acceptable to expect me to drive 14 miles for a £1 overcharge? I know I'd get £2 back but it would cost most of that in petrol.
I asked for the manager & she told me that it's all part of the new policy which started last Monday. I pointed out that the new signs don't mention anything about going back to the store you bought from. She then referred me to my receipt which says 'we have changed our refund policy. Please see in-store for details'.
They did give me my £2 refund, just to shut me up I think, but what a ridiculous policy.

How do you expect to get the money if you dont go back to the store ?
Next time check the receipt before you leave the store0 -
I would have thought shopping at one Tesco is like shopping at another one. If you buy something on holiday and it goes wrong, what do you? Is it just the overcharging that counts in this instance or anything that you buy at a store?
I can see why Tesco would want to impliment this policy but it does seem a bit silly for the customer.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -

I don't think you read my post correctly deanos - I did go back to a store, just not the same one I bought the item from.
Checking the receipt before you leave the store is a great idea, why didn't I think of that? Maybe it's because I did a full weekly shop, spent over £120 & needed to get to school to pick my daughter up so didn't have time.0 -
Must read posts correctly
Dosent take a few seconds to check receipts i always check mine on the way out, at least you will know to check next time0 -
You're right deanos - it doesn't take a few seconds, it takes a lot longer lol
Anyway, regardless of whether or not I should check my receipts before I leave the store, do you think it's acceptable to expect a customer who has been overcharged to go back to the store they originally went to?0 -
What if the shop you returned it to was displaying the correct price on the shelf? You would not have had any argument about a misprice0

tesco should have clearly marked the item not conning you out of your money0

That's a good point woohoo, but in this case it was PC game with a huge sticker saying £2.84 & I took the game back along with the receipt which showed I'd been charged £3.84.
They weren't disputing the overcharge, they just said I had to go back to the other store to get my money back. I don't think that's acceptable customer service.0 -
So what happens in the following scenario:
I bought a product marked at £15, and was charged £20. I checked my receipt within Tesco, before leaving the shop and noticed the miss pricing. I went back in to ask for the difference or to refund the entire product as I didn't want it at £20. Tesco refused to refund the difference, or take the product back as it was after 10 pm and their "customer services" desk was closed.
The duty manager then refused to come down and speak to me about concerns that they were in breach of trade description for miss pricing etc. and the till supervisor could only quote "I can't give a refund when the customer services desk is shut"...!???0 -
Tesco will probably make this look brilliant on paper and to their shareholders etc I'm sure but it's a case where common sense should prevail. It's not as if a company like Tesco will need the £1 so much that you have to go to the original store. :rolleyes:Male.
