But do Tesco still make you go back to the same store these days?
Since the date of the original post some 2 and a half years ago (resurrected thread), I have returned several items to different tesco stores than the one I bought the items in.
I've never been told to take it back to another store.???
It's only a game

We're talking about a refund of overcharging rather than a straight product return. Perhaps that's what makes the difference?0 -
The reason that they didn't want to deal with you at a different store is because it would look bad and go against that stores manager, so they will always try and tell you to go back to the store you purchased your item from, but if it is not clearly marked at the point of sale, then you can take it back to any of the stores of the same brand?A friend of mine has really made use of this policy with the above named store, as every Wednesday their prices change? If you notice that the price displayed is different / higher than the price on the item, go through the checkout as normal, pay for the overpriced item, go straight to customer services who will then give you a full refund, but let you keep the product for free. If they cant be bothered to check the offers that they are promoting, and with the majority of people not knowing that they can get a full refund and keep the product it is their fault. They are big enough and make enough money to employ a few more staff to make sure that the items are priced the same as the special offer's? This isnt just on groceries either, all dvd's, cd's game consoles, tv, video's all come under the same policy; which states; "If you are overcharged we will refund you the whole cost of the item, and let you keep the item for free" What amazes me is that more people havent cottoned on to this, it is perfectly legal, all you have to do is keep your eyes open whilst shopping? This applies even if you are overcharged by a penny, the word that is key is "overcharged" They do try and refund you the difference, but once they have mentioned the word overcharged, you have them banged to rights? They make the rules, we are just innocent shoppers? I would love to hear if anyone else who has experienced the same?
So what happens in the following scenario:
I bought a product marked at £15, and was charged £20. I checked my receipt within Tesco, before leaving the shop and noticed the miss pricing. I went back in to ask for the difference or to refund the entire product as I didn't want it at £20. Tesco refused to refund the difference, or take the product back as it was after 10 pm and their "customer services" desk was closed.
The duty manager then refused to come down and speak to me about concerns that they were in breach of trade description for miss pricing etc. and the till supervisor could only quote "I can't give a refund when the customer services desk is shut"...!???0 -

Paul, we have them "banged to rights"? Surely the rights are to get it for the price displayed, not a right to play the system and take advantage of a mistake to commit what is effectively theft.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0

Paul - the policy changed a long time ago from getting your money back and keeping the product. It is now double the difference so if you are over charged by 1p you would get 2p back.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

I find this totally ridiculous. I did some shopping at holland park ave tesco before they closed the shop at 11pm yesterday. I checked my receipt only after i went back to the hotel as i was havings bags from afternoon shopping.
It was then i realized the cashier had overcharged me by 3 items. I bought only 6 fridge raiders aka chicken bites, but the cashier charged me 6 fridge raiders @ 1.24, 2 chicken bites @ 1.24 and another fridge raiders @ 1.24 separately! but i only bought 6!
I counted my total items as i thought maybe i counted wrongly, i only had took and had 14 items whereas the receipt state 17 items! which was excess of 3 items. I then add up the amount again and its correct then the cashier overcharged me by 3 items! i mean how can this happen??
Seriously i am due to depart for my home country in 5 hours, i am too tired to walk 20 mins to and fro just to get my 3 plus pounds back! but the point is i feel seriously shortchanged! I hate tesco really!0 -
