Just heard that it definately won't be like for like building.
So for instance a 3 bed being sold could build a 1 bed flat.
A 4 bed being sold could build a 2-3 bedroom house.0 -
So when you buy your next house, which will likely be an ex council, not only will the people who own it have enjoyed a healthy increase in value they will have got it for nowt. Great incentive you are sending the middle classes. Why even bother trying in life anymore.0

Well if that's the case then Schapps and his VI buddies can go stick it where the sun don't shine.0 -
I live in HA house. Me and OH work both full time, but our jobs are low paid and area is expensive. We're saving and hopefully will be able to buy. Only because we live in HA ,does it make us a "scum"?! Those comments :" why buying the hous, while they live there for free anyway, rent is paid by HB, useless b%&rds!" they are really rude.0

It doesn't make you scum if you save the benefit the rest of the tax payers are giving you to sort your life out and then rent a private house or buy one - that is what it is there for
It does make you a scrounger if after getting years of a cheap rent, you buy the house at a huge discount, then let it out at 3x the rent to someone else renting privately and live off the proceeds
I've seen a LOT of the latter round my way:mad:
(BTW, I'm afraid I think the new RTB only applies to Council not housing association properties :T)0 -

We live in a HA house, we have lived here for nearly 20yrs. The build cost of the houses was approx £35k,including the interest on the loans . We have paid more in Rent than it cost to build them so the HA is in fact making money from our rent.
There has been discussion on here as to whether HA/Council rents are too low and subsidised by the taxpayers (many of which live in those houses) but the facts are that no one really knows as many say Private rents are far too high. What is a fair/appropiate rent?.
I believe that Council houses should never have been sold off unless the Councils were able to build new housing stock.
Lastly some HA tennants do have the "Right to aquire"(at full market value) if their house was built post 1997....
Just goes to show how ignorant some poster are.I really can't be @rsed to debate with nuckle draggers anymore.....;)0 -
Yes, I know that, just find those comments very upsetting, not everyone who lives in HA/council house is a scum , like not everyone who lives in private property is a great asset for the country. It's sad how many people presume that.(BTW, I'm afraid I think the new RTB only applies to Council not housing association properties :T)0 -

Critics of Social housing like you don't seem to be able to grasp the fact that Social Housing is not for profit. Its not linked to HPI in the private sector. So whereas a private landlord will set his rent so that his tenants pay his mortgage and additional sums for maintenance, profit etc Social Housing values have no link to HPI.The Social Housing pay a set "Fair rent".
Regarding your above comment we are actually net tax payers of £2k a year so again your wrong HA/Council tenants are not spongers. The vast majority pay their way.
Your not very good as a Troll so you may as well give up
However if you want more educating on the subject of Social Housing I'll be online tomorrow evening .Till then jog on and do some homework on the subject and who knows you may even come up with some facts. 0 -

I suspect if you work out the difference between a market rent and your social rent you aren't a net tax payer0
