Any idea when an official and detailed outline of this will be published? I.e showing what the cap will be for specific and individual areas/postcodes?0

this is nothing new! he has said before that every council house sold will be replaced by another new one. it will really just balance everything out but it will also mean that 50-75% off the council house which will contribute to further falls.:j0

That's as long as they do build the houses to replace the ones they sell off.
This is exactly my first thoughts & Sibley is seemingly contradicting himself0 -
No no no no no no. No more handouts for f e c k l e s s f e c k e r s. No more dole outs for doleys. No more disbursements for the doleite.
For Pete's sake enough. If the tories are still pulling this shizzle who the hell is going to stop it?0 -
The vast majority of council tenants i know have no intention of buying their council house.
Why buy when its free to live in and people like me come round and maintain it for them.
Why the fcuk would i want to buy a house that i already live in for free. Thats what most are saying around here.
Because you can sell it in 5 years time and pocket the 75k cash (if house prices stayed static).0 -

I agree this is a potential problem Graham which is why if they do go ahead with this scheme they need to put provisions in place to try to stop people from profiteering from this scheme, although with these clueless politicians that is highly unlikely.0 -

I have to say, it's a shame to see this from a tory government. However, it's not surprising. VI's rule when it comes to the government and HPI seems sanctamount....for every party.
Let's face it, this isnt even party political. They were all fiddling and making the most of HPI themselves. Swapping homes to earn th most HPI on MP expenses and the like. The battle here isn't with a political party, it's with the MP's from all the parties.
It's as Tony Blair stated in his book. You have 3 sets of people in government. MPs from political parties, the populace and VI's. As he said, the policy pressure comes from the VIs (including unions), of whom can destroy you in a way that MPs and the populace can't.0 -

How would that be enforced?I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Have to agree with you there.
The government housing policy is a complete mess.
First they are trying to stop new social housing tenants having a right to live in the housing for life.
Next they want to sell council housing which is social housing off.
+1
Cynical vote buying
LABOUR: give subsidised housing to people to buy votes
TORIES: subsidise the sale of council houses to people to buy votes
TAX PAYERS: pay for it all
..rinse & repeat ad nauseam...0 -

The last thing some people want is cash in the bank.0
