Advice needed Recieved recorded delivery of nothing!!!!

I bought some newspaper vouchers on eBay, This morning I have signed for a packet by recorded delivery which when opened contained noting but fresh air!
I have telephoned the seller who I don't think really believed me but has promised to send some more vouchers. He requested return of the packaging which I have refused to do until I have recieved my vouchers although I have offered to send him a photo of it,
I have bought from him before with no problems but not for such a large quantity (there were £430 of vouchers)
I paid using paypal using a credit card to try to cover myself as much as possible.
I am hoping the seller sorts the matter out but if he does not in the next week I will open a dispute.
I need your advice on how to complete this matter succesfully as I will be £50 out of pocket!

  • you could return the item to him via recorded delivery and paypal will accept that as you returning it. The fact that the item was 'nothing' shouldn't reaelly matter.
  • Could the envelope have been tampered with?

This has the potential of being a scam. But I remember taking a load of items to PO and one box felt a bit light decided to take it home and check it...needless to say the main item was missing...arghh. Very lucky because I very much doubt I would have believed the buyer who was in Italy.

    So it can happen.
  • I would not use recorded delivery as paypal do not accept this as proof of return.
I know from experience as i foolishly sent back a damaged item via recorded delivery once valued £130 and it did not reach its destination.
I gave paypal the tracking number but recorded items only track once signed for.
I should of sent it special delivery and that would of been ok, as it was i just got £30 compensation from Royal mail.
So if you do go down the route of returning it just remember if you send it recorded it must be signed for, for it to track otherwise special delivery is the way to go
  • Hope you were insured

he says 'newspaper vouchers' in the first line

    :rotfl:
  • Just to reply to you all, Im my view the envelope does not look tampered with although it had been sealed at both ends with sellotape, I do not know if this is how the seller packaged it.
The seller has a feedback of over 800 99% and regularly sells newspaper vouchers.
I think he may have made a mistake when packaging my item and hope he will resend,
If I do not recieve my vouchers or a refund will I be likely to be refunded in full from paypal?
I was under the understanding that the only acceptable delivery for the seller sending vouchers was to use special delivery.

Just make sure however it's sent has adequat insurance to cover it - so items worth more than £30 should be insured with RM for the appropriate amount...

    I'd be asking the seller.
