The Big Switch (Which/38 Degrees)

glad that co-op energy won - but think that restricting to 30,000 is cynical - it will be interesting to see what kind of hard sell which give me if I am not in the first 30,000 to get coop deal
if they give a hard sell then we can assume they are in this for their £40 commission ... if not then prepared to give them benefit of the doubt.
seems like the articles from the guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/mar/23/which-big-energy-ecotricity was fairly prophetic
- I also signed up to thepeoplespower - they linked to a load of big switch stories - unsurprisingly? they are not so harsh on which? - probably as they are trying the same sort of thing!

I was all set to save £142 per year after I got my offer through today. Not bad when my annual bill's less than £700.
Until I took into account the £100/year dual fuel discount & £40 exit charge.
Well since it's limited to 30000 people I wont be greedy. I'll cough up the extra £2 a year that it's going to cost me to stay on my current tariff and let someone else benefit.0 -
I registered online and read about the outcome in the weekend papers - but haven't had any mailing about this. Does anyone have the link to the site to apply?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I just got my email and it would save me.. ooh.. £6. Minus the exit fees I'd have to pay Scottish Power. So I won't be taking it up.0

New registration for The Big Switch is now closed.
but if you've already registered you may get some info here.0 -
I've got the Big Switch email.
Says they can offer me 'a cheaper deal' and I will save £46 annually.
But as I am on Npower Go Fix 8 (North West region) which has about a £90 exit fee in my case (£20 + £20 + £50), made up of the £20 per fuel exit fees plus the loss of about 6 months of accrued deferred direct debit discount, I will almost certainly lose out by switching.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
I'll do my own switching without being in a herd. Have done quite well in the past with freebies on offer.0

My email came today. It said with their fixed rate, I could save £58 on my present tarrif. (As I have light usage at the moment, I had stayed on Scottish Power standard for a couple of weeks after my last fix finished to wait for the results of Big Switch)
I cross checked with two comparison sites -- There were 10 fixed tarrifs that beat the Co-ops , savings ranging from £135 -£59!!
SO, I wont be taking up my place in the first 20,000 thanks very much !!
Be interesting to see how many people actually do change - wonder if we will ever know ?0 -
I wonder how many existing customers the Co-op will lose ?
My quote tells me Sainsbury is best deal for me but based on incorrect usage, when I changed it FU is best !0 -
I agree with MSE plaudits to which? for trying to disrupt the market and show people the gains from switching but for me its only an annual saving of £70 and with a £30 per fuel cancellation charge it just isn't worth it.
It has highlighted edf to be cheaper than my current British Gas tariff but again only by £70 (without cancellation fees) I had held out switching in the hope the Big 6 would have had their feathers ruffled.
Fingers crossed it is a saving for enough people to switch and make the rest of the suppliers take notice.0
