Is this on top of the £100?0 -
I've tried to apply for a first direct current account twice now (mostly for the £100 incentive) however they keep rejecting me. Before i even submit my application online they say that i have failed to meet their specific criteria and say that they will explain why with a letter in the post shortly afterwards. First time i got rejected, the letter said that i did not meet their credit score system (seeing as how i had opened up a few current accounts a month before i guessed this was the reason). So i've waited another month and tried again today but got rejected instantly before i can even submit my application online. I really am struggling to understand what criteria i am failing to meet? Just to let you know i am a student with an annual income of just over £1000 from my part time job which may be a reason due to my low income? Or could it be due to the fact that i already have around 6 other current accounts (as i had to declare i had more than 5 debit cards on the application)? I did apply and open up 3 current accounts in December 2011, could it be these credit checks that are affecting me? Also i did not request any overdraft on any of these accounts. I only have one overdraft and credit card with my main lloyds student account.
Could anyone help explain what this problem may be due to please?0 -

Checked the terms and conditions? if you earn £1000 pa how can you pay in £1500 per month? I assume you are not study mathematics.0 -

Thank you for the reply but theres no need to be rude there...silly question on my behalf yes i admitt. On the contrary I have an A* at A level Mathematics if you would like to know.
I was thinking more along the lines, like many others i suppose that your income doesn't really matter as long as you can pay in £1500 each month. As quite a lot of people just cycle the amount in, and i was planning on doing the same, so didn't realise that First Direct obviously would not want this....I could just lie about my annual income couldn't I? As i'm about to get a new job and earn a lot more (not quite 14k though) but i could get into trouble for fraud or something IF they find out somehow couldn't I?0 -
I think it was an amusing comment, not rudeness. I had components of my degree covering numerical methods and discrete and combinatorial maths, but anyone can see 1000/12 < 1500.
It could be worth taking one of those free trials to find out what appears on your credit history. Numerous addresses might also concern them?0 -

Well thank you for your comment and honesty there. I think it is my income that is the problem, just wanted to know whats the harm in me lying about my income in this case? As i can easily fulfill their £1500 monthly target just by cycling the amount like most people do, i just need to open the account first...And i'll be honest with you in that i'm not planning with sticking with them as i'm primarily interested in the £200 switch incentive and satisfaction guarantee offer which is very attractive. So would they find out about my income through the credit and all these checks they do? If so could i get into trouble for fraud?0 -

the cynic in me accepts that what they told me over the phone may not excatly be enforced in their T&C however, on the phone it was made plain that:
a) you must use the switiching service to get the £100; and
b) if you intend to avoid the avergage £1,500 balance rule by simply paying in that much as a direct credit and cycling it out again then it must come from your employers payroll / bank account reference not from another bank account in your name - this may explain why you are rejected?
PS got my £100 this month0 -
My incentive got paid the day after my direct debits switched over. Curiously they have paid me £125. I'm not sure why.0
