The most commonly compromised OS is XP. The most easily compromised OS is XP. It is so trivial to compromise XP that it is beyond funny.

You could have your computer rooted and not even know it.

IF you dont know what youre doing.

Otherwise XP is still the best OS to date.

It doesnt take much. Just need to know what software you need, what to run at startup and what to disable in IE.

    Done.

XP works for many people. XP is also the choice of OS for many hackers to use as their OS as opposed to Win 7.

It's probably the most widespread OS out there, so that's not really a surprise...

Maybe, but a fully-patched system running half-decent security software minimises the risk, which let's face it is inherent in almost every OS

yeah, if you're a non-techie and don't follow simple safe surfing rules.....

No OS is inpregnable, but a lot is down to the user rather than the OS itself....and vista and 7 both use Java, which is the most common way in to most OSs at the moment....
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I have used them both.and there are both advantages and disadvantages.
Xp is work faster than win7 and the appearance of win7 is much prettier.
  • i would rather a 64bit operating system (if processor is compatable).
    i have had win95, 98, 2000, millenium, XP, Vista, and now windows7 ultimate 64bit.

XP was good for running programs, but security wise, no matter how you beefed up with antivirus and antimalware, you got planted with somesort of virus, even when not surfing websites, IE9 on XP slowed down my system, and use of facebook was impossible, i couldnt access my router either as IE9 doesnt support the admin and password page to my gateway for my router.

most drivers now for newer hardware are becoming vista or above.

vista was a pain in the backside, the more programs you installed the more memory was taken up, with the added bonus of updates adding more stress to the system. i spent more time running in compatability mode and setting programs to run on one core of my dual core processor and setting the priority of the program than i did accessing the internet just to get a darn program to work properly without crashing or causing conflicts with other programs in the system then i had to often allocate full control priority security for the program to give me administration control over the program even after disabeling UAC.

win7 for me is a much more user friendly system, reverted back to just using memory as it should be used. a quicker OS in my opinion but i run 8GB memory, and even under load only utalises about 4gb so most things run smooth for me. only down side is java easily hacked into if you dont have current updated anti malware and antivirus monitoring its behaviour.

    Such as?

Software drivers are either 32bit or 64bit.

You can XP in both editions.

I have had XP since it came out.
I upgrade all my components because i fold/game.
I have had no issues with XP drivers.
I have never had a virus or BSOD or any issues or slowdown.

I know how to maintain my PC. XP is fine for me.
If you dont know how to look after your PC, you will have issues.

BTW - I run scans probably every year. Nothing.
I run my XP drive as a 2nd drive and run scan using my Win 7 set up. Nothing.

Learn to look after your PC and tweak it using software no matter what OS you use and you wont have issues.

    Simple.
  • I haven't missed Java in the six months since I completely uninstalled i.

your pc is connected to the internet regardless if your not using IE mozilla etc. its broadband unless you have dial up.

static IP's are easier to attack. but dynamic ones can be penetrated just as easy. wifi is another way to get into a pc, even if its password protected over a local network.

things such as utorrent can open you up to attack.

make no means about it XP has remote assistance active as default you should really set it to disable in process manager.

your pc is connected to the internet regardless if your not using IE mozilla etc. its broadband unless you have dial up. True

static IP's are easier to attack. but dynamic ones can be penetrated just as easy. wifi is another way to get into a pc, even if its password protected over a local network. Again, true

things such as utorrent can open you up to attack. And for the third time, true

make no means about it XP has remote assistance active as default you should really set it to disable in process manager.

However, providing Windows firewall (at least) is on and you don't go randomly clicking on links, you'll be reasonably safe.

If you're behind a router, that add another layer of protection in the hardware firewall.

Given the possible number of IP addresses, I think the chances of being hacked are fairly slim (although my sympathies go to those who have been).

This reminds of my OHs boss who declared that, even when your computer is turned off it can still be accessed because of the battery on the motherboard!!!:rotfl:
