I agree that The Elephant is the best place in the whole Bay to eat, and you get great views across the Harbour from upstairs in the Cocktail lounge. Great way to impress guests :D.

Just along the Harbour towards the Clock Tower is Tiger Bills which I went to recently, does a mix of Thai and American food, not as awful as it sounds!

Walking even further in the same direction takes you to a FABULOUS indian restaurant whose name slips my mind :(. If I remember, I'll pop back and edit.

Unless you want to drive all the way out to Totnes, where I cook :rotfl:

Oh please do if you remember the name of the Indian.

I'm not going until next month, so will keep a note of all suggestions. Thank you so much.

Yeh, please tell. We have been coming down to Torquay for many years & have yet to discover a decent Indian Restaraunt, also would love to know of a decent Indian takeaway in the area!

Avoid Fawlty Towers, especially if there are any Germans in the group :D

    I'm surprised noone's mentioned Rick Stein's chippy.
  • Please correct me if I am wrong but Rick Steins chippy is in Padstow and this excellent local fish restaurant is family run in Torquay?

dont forget some of the hotels have great food,
i love the Aztec Bistro, it's in the Carlton Hotel, on Falkland road.
Hare and Hounds on Torquay Road does the best carverys.
and Hanbury's fish and chips in Babbacombe wins awards all the time for it's food! and is really well placed for a walk along the Downs to a pub afterwards!
if you are feeling frugal, try the Torbay iVoucher website, lots of offers there, often for Hanbury's. i think the latest offer was cod n chips, 1 side, and a glass of wine for £7.50ish.
feeling flush? then go for No 7 bistro, serves the best fresh fish ever.
also Churchills, again in Babbacombe, great carvery!

If you want to do something, you will find a way.
If you don't, then you will find an excuse...
