Morning all,
Really fed up this morning - had set aside most of the day to blitz through the American project and I made a start but I can't access most of the files I need because they haven't granted me permission! Aaargh! This project is *so* frustrating. So now I'll have to do some work over the weekend, and we've got friends coming round tomorrow for a BBQ (in the rain...) and we were hoping to go to Norfolk on Sunday.
In other news I'm off for lunch with family today as my great aunt (who is almost 90) is leaving to move to the Isle of Man to live with her family there. I also need to get some bits for the BBQ tomorrow, so will head to the butchers on the way.
MS things:
* Clicks done
* YG survey done
* Dinner last night included spinach, chilli and coriander from the garden (first use of my Vietnamese coriander, which is a perennial - tastes good!)
Gratitudes:
* a chance to see distant family (they've come over to help her move)
* a free and delicious biscuit from DH's hotel stay
* an understanding project manager for this work I have so many issues with!

It's almost a day since you posted this - I hope things worked out all round. And how lovely for your great aunt - very challenging, of course, moving at that age, but a lovely place to move to.
Hope your bbq goes well.2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
Thanks Karma. The work stuff has not worked out brilliantly as the problem was the agency’s not the end client’s so they refused to change the deadline… so I’ve got to fit work around visitors and a trip to Norfolk tomorrow. However, I am getting a 50% rush fee, so that’s good.
Seeing off Great Aunt went well though and it was lovely to see her and my mum’s cousin and my second cousin too.
Just waiting for our guests to arrive now for a soggy barbecue!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Pah to vexing work situation! At least you get extra dosh though 😊 glad you had a nice day today, hope work doesn't interfere too much with tomorrow's plans5

Hi Vix I’ve just caught up with your diary, glad you are feeling a bit better after the “wobbles” 🙂 it would be worrying if you didn’t have them I would say as you are moving area and there is a lot to consider. Great advice from cheery that it doesn't have to feel like forever, i think many of us mfw’ers are perhaps people who like to make plans and decisions way way in advance, I know I do! But life is too short to not take the leap and try something out, if it doesn’t work something else will come along that does fit 😊MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5

Hi vix, I've just caught up on your news and how exciting! I can understand why you'd have doubts but regret what you do and not what you don't do. Good luck and best wishes, I'm sure it will be fantastic! ❤Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Morning all,
Thanks ladies!Extra dosh is certainly good Cheery, especially at the moment (I won't receive it until October's pay (Americans 🙄), but at least I'll know its in the pipeline). Just taking a quick break from work - I did get some done over the weekend, so that was helpful.
We visited Norfolk again yesterday, to check out the local town(s). We also went for a walk in the village - checked out the noticeboards and the like. And a great sense of calm descended upon me (sorry to sound like a religious text!). So doubts have been squashed (I'm sure they'll reappear, but just knowing how calming and right it felt is really helpful). We only saw a couple of people in the village, but they both said hello, which is also a good sign. And one of them may well have worked out who we are as we obviously craned our necks and took a great deal of interest as we walked past 'our' house!
We had the Property Info form and Fixtures and Fittings form from our solicitor so we need to check those this afternoon and respond. Mortgage advisor says we should hear about mortgage by EOD on Weds at the latest.
Had a lovely indoor BBQ with friends on Saturday, not that it was in any way MSE. Still, we're eating the leftovers!
MS things:
* Clicks and surveys done
* Coop/Nectar/Tesco points collected as necessary at recent shops
* Friends gifted us a bottle of gin as they have too much! (Lovely bottle too, so will certainly find a use for that when DH has finished drinking it!)
* Cat sitting over the weekend (which I should get paid for this month - hooray!)
Gratitudes:
* Grateful for our visit yesterday - it has made me feel much more sure and calmer
* Lovely visit from friends - their 3-year-old has a brilliant imagination and doesn't stop chatting - much entertainment provided!
* Lovely kitties to cat sit (although less lovely was clearing up the mess in the kitchen from the old lady cat)

Morning all,
Had a lovely time playing badminton with DH last night - we used to play regularly with friends before we were married, but haven't played in 10 years. He signed up (after we'd viewed the house) for a six-month membership at the gym for £100. Not great value so far as he was then pinged and was away most of last week with work. However, badminton was free (for me too) and we've booked to go again next week (and hopefully he'll get to the gym too). If we weren't moving, I'd have signed up too, but for me it wasn't worth it for the short period of time I'd be able to use it (he's hoping to use it when he commutes down here for work too and had been procrastinating about joining for ages anyway).
I did get the rush job done for the Americans in the end and have received a lovely PO with 50% extra on it. Feeling pretty positive about work at the moment (which makes me feel more positive generally too). Have picked up a large-ish platform job this morning which will keep me busy for most of today and between the American project, things picking up with my older American client (as the world opens up!), the debtor client paying up and it being the time of year when my European client has a big project for me, things should be on a more secure footing for the next couple of months at least. I just have to avoid losing too much work due to the move.
DH and I have also talked about plans for the holiday let in terms of getting it refreshed for a new launch in the spring (a lick of paint, some new decking outside and generally cheering up) - we'll be hoping to put the price up marginally too. New photos, new blurb etc. Generally put our stamp on it. (MIL already wants to make new curtains for it!)
Today, apart from work I really need to ring Virgin Atlantic about flights for next year! Also, some washing, post an item for RM survey (first one of this batch) and maybe paint some fence...
MS things:
* 'free' badminton (for me anyway!)
* Clicks done - 52p won on HW (nearly back to minimum withdrawal amount - although I won't withdraw until I've got the keys to the new house in my hands in case the mortgage provider has other ideas about my 'gambling' accounts!)
* Qmee survey done
* Dinner last night was veggie spag bol, using stuff we had in; tonight will be shakshuka to use some other bits
* Just popped out (as in, in the middle of typing) to collect a loaf from Olio - had totally forgotten I'd requested it at 7 this morning!
Gratitudes:
* Badminton - I'd forgotten how much fun exercise can be!
* Various bits of good news re house yesterday
* Work seems to be turning a corner

This all sounds very exciting. A holiday let as well will be a great project to get your teeth into as well as well as extra income.
Moves can be super scary but I always think we regret the challenges we dont take. (note to self here as well)DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
