also I'm pretty sure that catchup services, iPlayer and the like, do require one.
No they don't.
From the TVL Website:-You don't need a licence if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch ‘catch up’ services like BBC iPlayer or 4oD.0 -
I'm a broadcast engineer (and former domestic TV aerial installer) by trade and it's long been known within the industry (and is slowly becoming public knowledge) that "detector vans" were never capable of "detecting" anything. I'd need pages and pages to spell out why this is not, and never has been technically possible. The reason why evidence from a detector van (or handheld detector) has never been used is because no such evidence has ever existed.
Detector vans were a scare tactic and the method of detection is the same today as it always has been, a list of unlicensed addresses, no more, no less.
Although TVs do emit energy which may be detectable, the energy emitted is in a form so small and inconsistant that it could never be of any use for making meaningful measurements, especially in this day and age where there are so many radio signals of moderate-high signal levels floating around our houses and streets, the minute emissions from a TV would be drowned out by these legitimate signals.
Exactly, the whole TVL system is full of lies - refering to the thread title, Capita's people are SALESMEN, nothing more! their main objective is to get a houshold with no TVL licensed, so they get their £20 commision, plan B if the "customer" refuses to buy, is to get them to admit their own guilt on a piece of paper! Plan C is the salesman has a snoop round your house, perhaps to see if your TV which you claim is only used to watch DVDs, does not have an aerial hidden away - ready to be plugged in! - the best way to deal with these SALESMEN, is never let them in or communicate at all, with creepy Capita in any way, your safety & privacy is far more important than their nosiness:)0 -
We received a letter from the tv license today bcause we haven't purchased a license yet. We plan on informing them we don't need one and have them check this if they want. Will we run any risk?
They can check the tv can't work if plugged into the aerial. Will they go rummaging through our home checking all our things? Is the sky satellite dish a problem? Can they check we haven't subscribed to sky?
I did read on their website you don't need a tv license if you don't watch or record tv, that includes mobiles or computers. I think we don't have to pay.
Thanks in advance for any reply:)
There is no law that says you have to tell the BBC filth anything. If you were silly enough to contact them they will only tell you that someone must check because everyone is guilty until the mighty BBC says otherwise.
If one of their goons knocks on remember zero communication. If they go on about Sky dishes it means nothing, you have milk in the fridge but it doesn't mean you have a cow in the garden0
