If you are thinking of a career development loan then you do not qualify if you are getting student finance.

  • You could get a personal loan, however you'd have to start making repayments straight away - no repayment holiday - could you afford that?

If it's £7.7k + PER YEAR you need - would you try and get £28,000 or would you get a new loan each year? (which I doubt you could do but could due wrong).

You wouldn't qualify for a Career Development Loan, as !!!!!! stated.

How are you going to live?
IE - Eat, pay rent, get to this 'school' etc - if you're planning on using the Maintenance Loan to also pay for the fee's?

This doesn't sound like a proper University - sounds more like a Boarding school or something if you're having to pay £800 for a uniform?

You wouldn't be able to get a loan as you wouldn't have income...

Have you considered a nanny/child care course at college?
A relative of mine did this and has travelled the world in this field(includ the likes of film directors in the USA) Yes the 'school' you are looking at is prestigious but you can get qualifications a lot cheaper and then move onto getting experience, if you are any good at it, it will show and you will not have any issues with getting well paid work.

I have to agree with you on this. Companies such as Camp America now offer one year programs to be a Nanny or Au Pair in America so there are definitely much cheaper options to be able to work abroad and gain experience.

Am I also right in thinking the qualification is for a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies? As if it is then there will be lots of universities that would offer this so you could still go to a top class uni but get more support from student finance and not end up paying very high fees. Even the £800 for a uniform is just ridiculous! Especially when working with children it will get very dirty very quickly

If you are serious about wanting to go to this particular place then I wish you the best of luck, but ultimately it seems an awful lot of money for a course you could do at a lot of other places.

Do a Google on "the world's most upper-crust nursery training school" . You are paying for a name

All this talk of upper crusts is making me hungry.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to train to a level 3 or 4 at an ordinary college or via a local childcare provider and then top-up to the full level 5 at the prestigious place if you still want to?

You could then use your level 3/4 qualification to earn money by working p/t while you complete your studies, yet still have the kudos of training at the posh place.

Don't know why you specifically want to train there - you may get taken on by the rich and famous but they may not pay any better and their kids will be no nicer!

Speak to the school. Perhaps there are prospective parent schemes who can assist with funding courses in return for childcare in holidays etc
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • To an extent I am paying for a name. But the course that is offered is that of their own. There arn't any other courses like this. I have been one of 200 + applicants reduced to 35. Which to me means I've done pretty well.

    So in reply to !!!!!!:

    This isn't just any
