This is a not good. Now that the major supermarkets have sussed out our habits they'll be planning a new strategy to get us spending our cash! They'll be flashing yellow stickers and fake prices, drawing us in and hooking us! I'm worried!
in M&S thursday i nearly grabbed ys sausages marked down to £2.50 until i remembered if you buy two packs they are that price anyway. and i found similar on hot cross buns in Mr T - they ys off the original price in the same way...so they are already doing this.Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320 -
Well done JackieO, just glad you're not competing with me in my local shops!!You can only fool some of the people some of the time then they wake up
I always think along the lines of, "You can only con some of the people some of the time" - forums like MSE highlight and make others aware of any "skullduggery".
A time perhaps now for a little more clarity and honesty, but doubt it as confusion seems to work for the BIG 4 at least and sadly the vulnerable get caught out!!

It's not easy, this shopping lark. You can't even trust yourself. Have a laugh on me.
I needed some bread and found some loaves of brown bread, the same as I usually buy, reduced from 47p to 20p. So I picked one up.
When I got home and checked the receipt (yes, I know!) it was 47p.
So, I check the loaf: no yellow sticker and a future use by date. I reckon that someone must've had a full priced one, found the reduced ones, taken a reduced one and dumped the full price one. Guess who picked it up.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

andy2004 - do you use coupons??
I stock up with the use of coupons and glitches (luckily the combination of both)!!
Quite proud of my "little corner shop" and once you have your "stash" you just need to tick-over and buy when cheap to top up. God knows how much stuff I've had for free/near free??
Check the coupon thread out, they are the true "Professional Shoppers" - quite funny really how they hit the shops and manufacturers hard - they completely turn the tables. I was amazed at first and of course sceptical, but I've been "educated" and learned my "trade" and it's great fun and money-saving. :money:

actually no i dont use coupons, however i did see that the daily star last week has £5 off a £30 shop so i did buy 2 papers, 1 used on sunday and then used the other yesterday. but 99% of the time i look for price discounts in the shops, i also dont buy groceries online, which means i'm missing on other discounts. tesco's have never sent me a decent off coupon book, i.e. nothing in the book i use.
And some on the items i buy isnt always for me either.
examples would be the ariel, 2 of my sisters use ariel but neither buy it in bulk when its going cheap. so i buy it and then sell it to them at the same price. getting my money back.
i use Daz, which my mum bought 20 packets of when it was on offer 42washes for £4.
Tea, me, 2 neighbours, sister, brother.
toilet rolls, sister and me.
robinsons fruit squash neighbour and me + 1 sister again
I dont know why i buy it like i do. a habit probably picked up from my dad, my mums noticed a change in her bank account. she's not spending as much.
well its not like i'm loosing anything my interest rate is 0.00% in my bank account. i have no needs, i got what i wanted, just saving now for the bills i know i got coming up, and then i might not need to pay them.
Car insurance is only required if you have a car, if that goes up the same 93% as it did last year i'm getting rid of the car.
Car tax, petrol, budget coming soon, i'll be watching.
1 week she gave me a shopping list and £40 to get it with, when i came back i gave her £20 + change and she checked the list i said its all there, "how the hell do you do it."0 -
andy2004 - I'm talking about manufacturers coupons (money off and freebies)
Have a look at the link below (if you haven't already) and have a good read of page 1.

Massive, massive savings to be had and silly to miss out. Coupons are just another form of payment/part payment and money saved there can offset other stuff.
Combining coupons with discounted stuff is where real savings can be made and more again if using £5 off £40 vouchers as well at the same time. It takes a few weeks to understand it all, but great fun when you win.

Yes I too have my 'corner shop/glitchy/coupon stuff' and mainly add to it now from Lidl half price weekend. But do look into Tesco now and again (couldn't make the cheese work) but researching, if you have the time, is fun.0

My daughter said to me yesterday she had seen me in the paper, on further explanation she was talking about the professional shopper story.
I have always shopped like this, always liked a bargain and now always use mysupermarket to find out who has what I want at the best price, as well as checking other sources like Morrisons website and on here and other sites on the glitch threads.
I stockpile any offers, freebies or glitches and certain items I only ever buy when they are on offer, and use coupons as often as I can. I have a backroom full of all my stockpiles and certain items I havent bought for years. I resent paying the full price as they are such a rip off!
At one point I did shop almost exclusively in Tesco a few years ago when the couponing was at its peak, but even then still occasionally went for bargains elsewhere. Nowadays I only go in Tesco for the offers/glitches as they are so expensive.
Now I am back to my old ways. I find it has got much easier to be a "professional shopper" nowadays with the internet and people reporting good deals, in the old days I would just go around the stores individually. Luckily I have most stores within a reasonable distance of either home or work.0 -

FYI, Tesco have just jacked their basic mayonnaise up from 48p to £1.05 but Sainsbugs Basic mayo is still 48p. It contains eggs, eggs are going up, get your mayo in before it's too late.
Thanks GQ; never thought about mayonaisse; must be slipping!'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

There is nothing professional about it. It is just people using their common sense. The reason supermarkets, furniture outlets etc have got away with it for so long is that shoppers usually had too much money to be concerned about buying value. Thanks to the [STRIKE]w[/STRIKE]bankers that situation is changing and now more and more people are becoming concerned about overpaying unnecessarily.0
