I love the way they act like we are a new breed of people. I do what I do because I learnt it from my Dad who is 60 this year. Next time I go into Tesco I will make sure I don't look at the women on the entrance desk in the eye in case she can tell I am one of those new 'professional shoppers'!!!:rotfl:Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.0

Well I have to admit I have joked that I shall be banned from one local supermarket, because even the cashiers have said to me 'Eh? How did you manage that?' Cos' the spend over what was in the trolly has been so massive. LOL! :j0 -
I didnt know that - I always stick to a shopping list, root out the bargains, cook from scratch. My Mum & Grandma taught me all I know and they lived through the war.0

I think the vast majority of folk who use this Board do that. I know I always do.....can sniff out a bargain/better deal/reduction from 100paces. It's the way I was dragged up (during the war and just after).Normal people worry me.0

Sometimes it is better to have a plan. I can spot a bargain at a distance because my mum taught me how to do this. Hence shopping at Aldi less of a choice, I know, but the prices and the quailty is often better than what you get at a major supermarket. My family laugh at my mother but some of the bargains they get are outstanding! Pennies and I mean pennies. She works in a supermarket and they always go to her 'Carole do you want this'. And then she passes it on to us.Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

            This bit made me smile
They are the type of customers who will take to social networking sites to shout about their penny-saving experiences - and they are making retailers nervous.
Supermarkets are having to work hard to keep up with the customers who will cook from scratch, buy in bulk and are scouring the internet looking for bargains.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

My Mum and Grandma were great ones for bargains.I think my Grandma was at her best during the war .Making do etc was second nature to her.
A few years ago I was in M&S with DD. It was just after Christmas and the Christmas cakes were reduced to 99p. I was dithering as we still had some cake left at home. DD turned to me and said "Granny would have wanted you to buy that cake"
She was quite right-my mother probably would have bought six.
I did pop into DHs office on the way home and told the office manager-she went and bought a cake too so did most of the female staff. The men couldn't see why we bothered.0
