Hundreds of Brits in TRNC have been FORCED by the Courts to demolish their villas, as the land they're built on belongs to a Greek Cypriot in the south. Happens all the time..........

It always helps to back up stuff like that.
Can you quote any internet references?
  • Have to agree, renting is the only way to be absolutely safe. Nowhere gives a total guarantee that you wont be ripped off but some places because of their antiquated laws are worse than others. Dont make the reason yu dont buy in North Cyprus be beacuse of the Stop the Blackmail in North Cyprus facebook group, check for yourself, check out the victims and make that the reason. Until past mistakes are corrected, how can new purchasers feel safe?

North or South? I live in Southern Cyprus at the moment and I don't find it to be either particularly.

We are moving back to UK this year though, and would not choose to stay here.

OP I wouldn't buy in Northern Cyprus for all the reasons mentioned above.

South.. I found it to be dirty, over developed, full of people trying to milk you or make a fast buck and with very few decent beaches/restaurants etc.

It wasnt all bad. I did find one or two decent beaches further south towards Akrotiri and a drive in the mountains was pleasant but im not used to having to hunt for my pleasures and i shall not be repeating the experience. Each to their own. I do hear that its one of those love it or hate it places...a bit like that other dump ..Malta.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

And they do take it back by force - legal force. You obviously are out of date with the politics there. Hundreds of Brits in TRNC have been FORCED by the Courts to demolish their villas, as the land they're built on belongs to a Greek Cypriot in the south. Happens all the time..........
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:, Think it through before making a stupid statement like that, please.
You are saying that The RoC Govt has control and ids able to force Its judgements on the TRNC ??? and BTW The Oram's Villa is still standing.

Well I hope that the Turkish and Greek Embassies or consulates have picked this up and reflected on the damage that this situation is causing to their reputations, construction and tourist industries. It did't dawn on me that the situation was as bad as the posters and links above reflect. Earlier I said that I would never consider buying property in Cyprus nor holidaying there, this has now been reinforced.

Haven't got time right now to search the web, but here's one article in the Telegraph where the couple have been ordered to demolish their property..............

It's not exactly something we'd like to go through is it?:money:

The trouble being that the order is un-enforcable and to date the Villa still stands.

OP, I find this all a bit strange, you initially said you 'had visited a few times.' I'm not interested whether this was a holiday or not, but you have clearly been there (or have you?) and seemed to like the place enough to want to live there - it takes more than good interest rates to do that!

If you have another agenda, you haven't done the GC side any good either!!

But they can't live in it though! Not much good is it if you can't live in it??:(

I have had 5 holidays both in the North and South, the Island is beautiful and I prefer the North for its mountain range.

I have a small pension and the higher interest rates in the North was attractive and would have enhanced my income.

What this thread has illuminated to me is the high level of corruption on both sides of the island and as I said I would not feel comfortable in such a place, on holiday you don't see this except when you are ripped off say in a restuarant.

As for not doing any side any good, well I feel that either side are not doing any good to themselves by being corrupt.
The reference above illuminate this and it appear to me to be endemic. As I said I have a small pension and some capital that I would not wish to risk in such a place, beautiful yes but heart no.
