So why are house prices falling ?

    They arent where I live.
I'm not really bothered about Beruit style estates.

Last time I worked it out, the base rate would have to hit 18% before we couldn't make the payments on our loans. Six more years of low rates (or ten more years at more "normal" rates) and we own the whole lot outright.

It was a balanced debate, no signs that Wendy was out of her depth. :rotfl:

That was a truly woeful performance. I felt embarassed for her, really cringeworthy - how did she get elected the president of the National Association of Estate Agents?

She didn't really cover herself in glory.

There really seems to be this all pervasive culture of 'the bailout' be it clinics using dodgy implants, banks making dodgy investments, governments borrowing too much, individuals borrowing too much.

This utterly fails to address the underlying problem of functioning markets.

Because Estate Agents aren't exactly known for their intellectual prowess?!

I don't think she'll be up for re-election after that humdinger of a performance. :rotfl:

As Alan Sugar knows, intellectual prowess has no bearing on business accumen.

I've known academic types give estate agency a go, and fail because they just lack business sense. As an example they spend far too much time with each client, and over time thier numbers reflect this.

I enjoy academia, I'm even one of those saddos to attend lectures voluntarily, and whilst the work is challenging, it's nothing like as stressful and chaotic as business life.

I agree, and I don't think you need to be an intellectual to be an estate agent, it was just in response to comparing their qualifications TBH - I wouldn't expect them to have multiple PhDs!

They might have misunderstood your northern accent when you asked for a 'fork n knife'

I usually just use the side of my fork to chop my fish up.

Absolutely. They used to do this all the time with Jonathan Davis. Jonathan, who was steeped (with a slight bias) in every single facet of house prices, was put up against the equivalent of a taxi driver who had been waiting in reception to pick someone up. Jonathan could then come out with statements like "Shortage of houses? Just look in your local estate agents, there are plenty of them".
