    Congrats on the job Endless..:j

I am finding things hard at the moment - I am applying for jobs but getting nowhere. I was more than hopeful when it came to the part time job that I had a work trial for but that went to someone younger although I wasnt specificially told that. I thought it odd when the feedback I had was excellent but I hadnt got the job because it had been given to the second triallee who would fit better into the team - the team consists of 20 year olds so they don't want someone in their 50's:mad: Their loss but still a kick in the teeth.

The Work Programme is looming and I am due to start that on 21 September, I have already been told by the jobcentre that I would have to give up my voluntary work and attending Remploy to attend the Work Programme. I am getting quite anxious about it all - I am doing what I can to find a job, I apply, sometimes I get an interview most times I don't - I know that I am doing everything right and I have been told that by various advisors at the jobcentre and Remploy but still no joy:(

Keep going Horace, I know what you mean, I had interviews where I knew I was the best person for the job, but it went to younger person.

The weirdest thing has happened, since starting this job, I have been contacted by 5 different companies to attend job interviews!
over a period of two weeks!, that has never happend before

Typical! I have been unemployed on & off for a few years and struggling to get interviews and 5 offers come along all at once...like buses!

I guess I must be getting good at this job searching marlarky!

I don't know why the Job Centre told you that you had to give up your voluntary work, I was doing 22 hours a week voluntary work whilst on the work programme. I was told it was ok as long as I could still attend appointments and could do whatever they asked me to. I would challenge them on that!

That's good news for me, I was afraid the market would go dead for the Olympics, but it sounds like you've done so many apps that they're all turning up like buses now. It's only 10 days until it's all over and the Paralympics won't be the same kind of giant deal so maybe from September when the kids are back in school, any jobs that were held over will cause another batch of 5 or so.

In my case, two on deadline today and I've updated my CV generally. The major surgery on it to create one for only full time and another for only temp and part-time, I'll do that this weekend as I'd need to go back and get all the details for the latter.

[EDIT] and Congrats Endless! Will have to up my game so I'm not the last person on the job shelf :)

  • I am an absolute idiot :(

I resigned from my job yesterday after seven months of bullying from the managing director, other directors and the general atmosphere of fear from work. It was making me so ill that I have been passing blood from both ends (sorry to be so graphic). I should have waited till they fire me or signed off on the sick but I had a nervous breakdown yesterday morning after a glass was thrown at my head and just typed off the letter and left.

I'm absolutely up a creek without any form of a paddle. It's going to affect any benefits I could get, I have £50 to my name till the end of the month and my rent is £360. I was such an idiot to just walk. I'm going to go to urgent care now and go from here. I never thought things could get this bad :(
  • With regards to benefits and such when you tell them you have left a job you usually have a chance to explain why you left your job and they speak to the employer etc. I think in your case if you explained the situation a reasonable person would come to the conclusion you were better off leaving! I would also go to the police if I was you, I think that would definitely help your case !! I left a job as they were constantly threatening to sack me and it was making my performance worse and worse and the job centre contacted them and they said they had sacked me!

Don't feel bad for leaving, your health is more important than any job!

To put your mind at ease a bit I left a job before due to a male colleague making inappropriate and scary comments to me. I explained this to the Job Centre at the time and they were quite happy with my explanation so they definitely do allow some leway if you had a good reason for going.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • I had my first day yesterday and I loved it! I get to wear whatever I want too which is good as I never feel comfortable in work clothes. Everyone seems to live in leggins there which is good as I do too. Gonna phone and sign off tonight.

Good luck all those still looking. This job was my wildcard so if something looks just for you but you're not really qualified for it go for it, that's what I did.
