The buyer is bidding against a fake bidder - so the buyer is the loser.
Also - its illegal and a jailable offence.

Plus the buyer doesn't know he/she is a loser, he/she thinks he/she is a winner.
I'm literally turning losers into winners. I should get a public service award! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No...you're defrauding genuine honest bidders.Plus the buyer doesn't know he/she is a loser, he/she thinks he/she is a winner.

Someone was jailed last year for this practice and I hope eBay can trace your actions, they are big enough to "cut a few corners" to find out your true identity and that of your friends.
A legal way around this is to set the auction starting price at what you want as a minimum price. If I wanted say £20 for something then I would set the starting price at that.0 -

So what's the difference between setting the starting bid at £20 and having a mate bid up to £20? In both scenarios the buyers first active bid is £20?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

There is no difference to the buyer goater, go for it. eBay do whatever they can to squeeze every last penny out of their customers so good luck to anyone who plays them at their own game.0 -
No i don't cheat, I just refuse to pay extra to set a reserve price on my bid. There is no difference to doing this than there is setting a reserve price.
I am happy as I have got the price I wanted, the buyer is happy as they have got the item for a price they have bid on. The only people unhappy are Ebay who have not made extra money by me setting a reserve limit.
I am more than happy for the losing party in this transaction to be Ebay.
Sorry if I miss understand the way to sell on ebay and dont know how much this setting a reserve costs but why dont you simply add a little extra to the item price to cover the cost of the extra charge ebay make to add a reserve limit listing? Just as some do when offering free P&P ? This way you cover your own costs.
Thanks
Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

It's an auction so you can't set a price:)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
