Another winning bid cancelled

misfire

Twice I have bid on a maclaren pushchair on ebay (different sellers) and have followed the auction for the whole 7 ish days that both ran. Both times I was the highest bidder all the way through - and then suddenly just before the end of the auction my bid is cancelled as the item is 'no longer available'............
..................what it disappeared into thin air????:mad:
If they want a certain price for it surely don't start the auction at such a low price - or set a reserve.
If I bid on a item I am in a contract and I have ALWAYS honored that bid but it sees the same doesn't apply to sellers.:mad::mad::mad:

Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)

I will add that to the other 1000s of reasons never to use that scummy site!!0

Scummy site? Funny how a very large proportion of online shopping is done through eBay these days.
As with most sites, you get bad sellers - but most are honest. I run 2 businesses on there, and even if I made a loss I would still honour the auction.0 -
I heard a woman discussing an item she'd listed on ebay and someone had won for 99p. She was saying how she was going to tell the buyer that them item had been damaged and so was no longer for sale because she wasn't letting it go for 99p........that isn't very good practice imoWhen your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

Happens all too often.
I once won a £250 tyre for about £5. I arranged to collect it the day after the auction ended only to get an email from the seller saying that the tyre had been stolen overnight!!!
Highly unlikely but they relisted it a few days later!!!!0 -
i'm afraid I'm not very ebay savvy. What is the point of this as opposed to setting a reserve?
It seems pointlessly dishonest.Union official.
CiPD qualified.
Anything I post is solely MY OPINION. It never constitutes legal, financial or collective bargaining advice. I may tell you based on information given how I might approach an employment dispute case, but you should always seek advice from your own Union representative. If you don't have one, get one!0 -
Did it not used to be that you couldn't cancel a lsiting within the final 12 hours if there had been a bid?0

Trouble is, I suppose there HAS to be a way to cancel the bids and close the auction at the last minute for those exceedingly rare times when the seller is just wrapping up that priceless Ming vase and drops it on the floor. It's this that people tend to abuse.
If eBay was happy to relinquish a tiny bit of their profit and allow reserves to be set for free, you'd see 99% of examples of this practice stop overnight. I can't see that happening, though.0 -
I know this is the wrong forum to ask this but does anyone know if fleabay have a policy on how often someone can pull that stunt?
There are obviously cases where it's legitimate but no one should be doing it more than once every few hundred sales. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
to get round the reserve problem i just get a mate to bid up what I would want the reserve to be. There is a chance he/she will win but at least i don't lose the item for too small amount of money! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
