I parked in a sun bed car park next to a school to get my kid, they sent me a letter saying they seen my car on cctv and i have to pay a fine of £60 in the next 14 days or that will go upto £85. If i dont pay neither they say i will have to pay a combined fine of all the times my car was seen parking there.

Ignore them, they will not take you to court, they will not effect your credit rating, they will not give you a CCJ, and there is no point appealing to them or responding in any way. What will happen is 5-6 letters threatening holy damnation from fake debt collectors, and toothless solicitors, after that you get a 100% discount on the price, meaning you will pay zero.

The cost of the advice by the way is free to you, but you got to promise to tell at least 10 people about this scam, and point them here if they are worried.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
• thanks very much, extra 60 quid in my pocket i was about to blow! my mother in law got the same ticket, thanks again !

They are talking their usual crap. Don't even think about paying these scammers.

The asking price will rise as other scammers join in, but ultimately, as Taffy says, it will drop to zero as they conclude you are no mug and cut their losses and skedaddle.

Meantime laugh out loud at their ridiculous threats as you realise they are paying, not you.

You might as well try fining people who park in the road outside your house, just as (il)legal.

What on earth is a sun bed car park?
Anyway don't worry, you don't have to pay them anything. They have sent a letter to the registered keeper, not the driver. So they couldn't take you to court even if they wanted to. That is, provided that you don't make the mistake telling them that you were the driver.
They certainly cannot fine you. All they are doing is to ask you if you would like to send them some money. You are under no obligation to do so. As others have said, just ignore.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
• I've had a similar experience. I parked in a supermarket car park and specifically went looking for time limits, pay and display etc but found nothing. A few weeks later I got a letter from CP Plus demanding £60 for overstaying the (unspecified) time limit. Couldn't get hold of them by phone so ended up emailing them. They told me they comply with BPA guidelines and wouldn't accept that there was nothing stating a max time limit - and still wouldn't tell me what the max was!

Since then there's been a lot of back and forth by email and they're now demanding £130 and threatening court action. I offered them £2.70 (the going rate for two hours' parking in that area) and even said I'd pay the £70 just for it to go away but they're sticking to the demand for £130.

Can I really just ignore them, because I'm torn between wanting to tell them to shove it and worried about legal action?

Thanks!

There won't be any legal action. They were fools to refuse your £70 (you were silly to offer it!) but they obviously thought they had hooked a live one and they could do you for more... the offer of £2.70 was a realistic one but of course they laughed at you...

Repay their greed by giving them nothing whatever. This is what they deserve and what they will be awarded if they took it to court. Which, of course, they won't. Their preposterous demand is totally unenforceable- even if there was adequate signage- which there plainly wasn't- it is NOT LEGAL for a private company to fine anyone, only Police or Councils can do that.

They will threaten this and threaten that, but they NEVER do anything. I have personally dumped over 80 of these FAKE tickets including from CP Plus.

Just ignore them and their toilet paper. Or if, as I expect, you want the last word, call them again and tell them you have taken legal advice and your lawyer tells you that their claim is unenforceable and if they disagree you will see them in Court and hang up. I guarantee you won't.

You had a narrow escape. It was only the fact that you engaged with them convinced them you were ripe for the taking and hence they stuck to £130.

Now give them sod all.
• Excellent, thanks. What a bunch of scumbags. Delighted not to give them a penny.

We need to clarify if the OP is talking about Combined Parking Solutions or CP Plus. Combined parking Solutions is Perky's outfit and he is known to do court. If this is the case then we have to be careful of what is said on here as the pie eater does keep an eye on things. It might be necessary for the OP to amend his poriginal post, if you know what I mean.

If it is CP Plus then he can safely ignore them.

Just what I was going to say.

Let me Google that for you result shows several threads about Combined Parking Solutions on pepipoo forums.

Wait for the results to load then read some other people's experiences if you are a genuine newbie, cheeks91, you will see that CPS do sometimes try Court. They like to wheel out the old 2008 Stephen Thomas case where someone parked several times in a Church car park - it's a case that Perky won. They have also lost a few and just like to cherry-pick an odd one now and again for a Small Claim attempt.

Not sure that I believe cheeks91's post though...hello Perky.:p

CJCregg you can relax, different company altogether but I am not sure why you posted on this thread among all the hundreds/thousands of threads here. Anyway just read the top sticky thread and be ready for those letters shown there which CP Plus and their debt collectors issue.

Coupon, some say that the Stephen Thomas case was a set up, and either Stephen Thomas doesn't really exist, or he is a pal of the parking company boss. Is there any evidence for/against this rumour?

What does seem certain, is that the latest cases indicate that if a proper defence is offered, all claims made by PPCs must fail upon the issue of unlawful penalty.
