So just because a tenant is immature and lacks life skills they were never taught, the LL is allowed to just do what the hell they like with my mail?

Anything except open with intent to defraud, yes.

So you needed someone to teach you that you needed to pay (a) Council Tax and (b) for the electricity that you used?

You have said that you will be going to Uni this autumn - if you only learn from what is specifically taught to you, rather than doing some basic research of your own, then you are likely to emerge with a pretty shoddy degree classification

I knew I had to pay them, I'm just badly organised and never got around to it.

    Too busy partying man. Haha.

That's correct. And that applies even for tenants who are mature and in possession of a full array of life skills.

    Party is over now however.

Time to get some work done. I'm going to pay off all old debts within the next few days, just need to track them down.

Hopefully then I can repair my credit rating.

The landlords probably won't go near the mail after the changeover period, it will be the new tenant picking it up who probably won't give a toss! In the flats where I am, I am probably the only person who bothers to put post back in the post box as return to sender, mainly just so our hallway isn't cluttered. The other tenants just toss it in a pile and if I don't do something with it the cleaner periodically puts it in the bin.

I wish people would take responsibility for flats they are in at least, it wasn't hard for me to put the previous owner on the MPS list so I don't get their junk seeing as though they didn't bother to get RM to redirect it.

The OP asked what appeared to be a sensible question but in the course of further posts made it clear that
1: they could not be bothered to organise their own life,
2: expect others to pick up after them, and if they didn't
3: be legally liable for failing to do so and any consequences

Worst of all it didn't occur to them to first ask the LL or neighbour to help!!!

If post #17 is not genuine, then the only thing I can add is that they are "in for a (rude word) shock".

    What a complete donut :(
Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

    Nice.

Are you this rude to everyone who doesn't give you the answer you demand?
