Oh and not forgetting over the last few years that Monarch did that route from Manchester and pulled out as did Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford

Its obviously the least profitable of all the flights to Almeria, hence the sacrifice. They are using this tactic all over Europe at the moment to lower costs.
Thats how they do business. Thats how you get cheap flights.

If you choose to dance with the devil, then be aware of the price.

These days, with me, the accom, transfers etc is left as late as possible just in case of these situations

The question generally of compensation and consequential loss again needs serious review because of the way players like Ryanair behave.

Yes and why there isn't uniform enforcement across the EU of EU Regualtions with regard to aviation.

You will appreciate that the message in your post is not in the public interest and is useless for consumers. You are missing the point entirely by implying that Ryanair's behaviour is "normal" or not evolving.

Ryanair have been worsening their behaviour steadily over the years with this kind of thing, but this year it would appear they may have actually set out to perfect it as a business artform. Any business with such a reckless disregard for the welfare of their customers should be attacked and sanctioned wherever possible, especially if it is becoming evident that they are prone to act as anti-social dishonest hooligans. Judging from the po-faced tone of press releases he has issued on all manner of subjects, the mind behind what is "acceptable" day-to-day behaviour is Stephen McNamara. I think more than anyone, he is probably their expert on "Getting Away with It".

Ryanair do cancel routes or significant parts of schedules without telling booked passengers for days and weeks. It has happened to me but luckily I spotted it early and told Ryanair how it would be fixed for me. That was back two or three years ago when they had not yet perfected their po-face with regard to this particular wheeze. I am sure that by now they have statististical models which tell them the likelihood of a complaint being made in the first place, and also the likelihood of the next stage of complainants pressing the issue beyond the first fob off.

The question generally of compensation and consequential loss again needs serious review because of the way players like Ryanair behave. If a business sets out to create havoc with customer's schedules and expenditure plans as a way to herd demand back and forth then it should not be immune to liability for consequential losses for a start.

Good luck to the OP in his mission :T

I don't like it either but we are victims of our own demand for rock bottom prices.
Fuel prices are double what they were a few years ago The on.ly way they can cut costs is to take it off the airports or cancel less popular routes or both.
Reason, I think they don't anounce these things too early, is if the airport/tourist authority cave in, then everything carries on as before.
    BTW
They really aren't playing such a different game from the big flag carriers who have overbooked and bumped passengers for years.
They know only a percentage are going to seek compensation.Thats why its worthwhile doing it.

If all the EU Governments make it easier to claim compensation, I guarantee prices will soar to cover the payouts.

Ryanair and easyJet were in business before EU regulation EC 261/2004 was introduced, some may say they brought it on themselves. Enforcement of rights to re-routing would just mean no putting on sale of non-viable routes which would have no affect on low fares.

Yes I agree Richard and they should be forced to re-route people who have been messed around. They wiii pass the costs on though.
Governments however can hand out subsidies when they want. Nisan have just got £10 Million of our money, announced today.
Its not very "green" to subsidise air travel though.
  • Well Ryanair finally came clean and confirmed they pulled the Almeria route from Liverpool. I have been offered a refund which I've taken. I am glad I didn't believe the lying woman at head office though and went and booked an alternate flight and car hire before all the displaced disgruntled punters began snapping up the flights available for the week before Easter!

    The email I got:

Ryanair sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this route cancellation.

Like someone said I am sure I would never get compensated for the extra expensive I have had to incur to get to Almeria close enough to meet my friend arriving from the USA (new dearer flights, car hire and one way drop off fee). I am just glad I found out early enough to actually GET a reasonable cost flight on the needed date.
