Ryanair doesn’t bother to tell anyone they’ve pulled out of Almeria

Hi Martin and everyone,

can I draw your attention to this:

www. davidjackson.info/2012/ryanair-doesnt-bother-to-tell-anyone-theyve-pulled-out-of-almeria.htm Remove space from after www. ;)

I booked with them back in January for April 1st, it says confirmed when I go into my flight info and when I called their head office in Dublin I was very curtly told that till told otherwise I had a confirmed flight. The letting passengers know 6 weeks before departure (as discussed in the link above) has long passed for everyone on this and I had booked my flight to coincide with a friend arriving from Tucson in Arizona so understandably I am rather fed up that they are playing a waiting game before telling UK passengers this news. My options narrow by the day due to price rises and having to get to Almeria by a certain time. I have ended up making alternate arrangements flying into Alicante and hiring a car to drive down to Almeria but where do I stand with getting my money back from Ryanair?

If your flight does get cancelled.

    With reference to http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML

    Article 8

    (a) - reimbursement within seven days, by the means provided for in Article 7(3), of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
    - a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
    (b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
    (c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.

ryanair should offer you a choice of a) b) or c)

And what if David Jackson is wrong?

If the airline have told you that they are operating the flight, then you are entitled to rely on this information. At some point in the future they will either operate it after all, or tell passengers what alternative arrangements they have made: either way, you may not have a right to a refund. Or of course they may announce a cancellation, at which point refunds should be issued. I would imagine that no decision has been made since they told you that the flight is still going to operate.

Aren't Ryanair the airline that quite publically claim, when other airlines go bankrupt, that you should always book with a reliable airline.... like Ryanair?

I will never book them months in advance as they simply aren't reliable, you never know which airport they are going to fall out with next. Or which route isn't selling well so just gets pulled.
  • This is what I sent to Watchdog etc:

here's some news to follow up on! There could be quite number of people in the North West affected by this!

You will need to translate this.

Why haven't they made the many passengers who have booked for the flights they announced, and let people book in good faith, know that they need to make alternate arrangements? I think this is disgusting business practice! How can they announce a route, sell tickets and then retrospectively try and then blackmail the local tourist board to help pay for advertising? This should have happened BEFORE they even began taking money!

    Yours,

  • They might have been keeping this info close to their chests for now but I am making sure people get to know well in advance so they don't lose money on hotel bookings, car hire etc and can get alternate flights arranged!

It's hardly news that Ryanair are cancelling a lot of their summer flights and entire routes, it's been a regular topic on here for the last couple of weeks.

The only cancelled route is Liverpool.
East Midlands and Stanstead are still shown as operating (as are Madrid, Brussels & Dusseldorf) Even in the blogg he states it's the Liverpool route
