    Hi everyone,

So Day 1 of the FF went well today. Had cereal at home before work and took some quiche from the freezer and fruit and HM cake to work for lunch and then had HM lasagne from the freezer for dinner with potato salad. No snacks bought at work despite a couple of temptations and just had free tea and water from the machine! My car is in the garage at the moment so I thought I might have to pay for bus fare to work and back but I managed to get a lift with a friend so no cost there and have secured another lift in tomorrow. Hopefully my car will be fixed by then.

    So onwards to Day 2!

    Evening all,

So Day 2 of the FF today. Managed to avoid any spends and keep on the straight and narrow. Had breakfast at home and took HM tuna sandwich, HM cake and fruit to work for lunch and had HM thai green curry and naan bread from the freezer for dinner. Managed to get a lift to work and back today from a friend as my car is still in the garage. Luckily can pick it up in the morning so will have transport for the rest of the week. Down to my last £15 in my purse until payday next week but no spends planned until the end of the FF so fingers crossed it should stay in the purse. Fresh food is running a little low but I can manage with what's in the cupboards and freezer.

Hope everyone else is doing well!
    Day 3 here I come...!

    Hi Folks,

Calicocat - 1.00gbpounds for a Vienetta is a great price, not sure how much stuff is in the UK anymore but surely that's got to be cheaper than a Magnum.:j

Jackie0- Good to hear your family is keeping you busy. All your baked goodies sound lovely, I think for every child Grandma's house is the place to go for cakes and goodies. It certainly was for me, and it was for my kids, I'm soon to be a Grandma myself so I think I'd better get my finger out and starting perfecting my offerings. I think I've got a while yet, well at least until the teeth come through.
Hope you enjoy your new toy ;)

nannygladys - Best of luck with your FF, feeding visitors can be challenging at the best of times. Pop in some time and let us know how you did. :)

candygirl - After your spendy days I hope your weekend was frugal, have you carried on your FF into this week?

rosebowl - Well done on your 50.00gbpounds saving. I was going to say that you can increase your weekly grocery spending to 10.00gbpounds now, but it sounds like you've spent it. Your weekend wouldn't have been a complete washout if you enjoyed yourself and had a good time. Hopefully it's set you up for a better FF week.:D

taplady - Okay, so I wished you a happy holiday too soon, so I think I'm now safe to say I hope you had a good holiday :rotfl:.Hope DH had a good 50th birthday and the HM chocolate fudge cake went down well.

craigywv - Well done for managing 4 Fiscal Fast days. At least it wasn't a massive spend when you crumbled. Have a nice time in Cyprus :)

modern mille - The marmalade sounds great and you've managed to make some savings too, which is always a bonus. I make HM lemon curd from time to time but only do it when I can get lemons and/or butter on special offer otherwise it works out more expensive than the shop bought stuff. If I can't get the ingredients on special offer I don't bother as I don't like the manufactured curd. So well done for doing it at a good price and avoiding all the nasties.:T

hattifattener - Welcome to the thread and thanks for saying hello. Feel free to write as much or as little as you wish, I for one enjoy reading everybody's news, you never know when the next life changing tip is going to appear. Good luck with the NSD until you do your mini-fast, and do please let us know how you get on.:)

kattikins - sorry to hear about the uncertainty with your job at the moment. Good idea to join us though and be proactive, then if the worst comes to the worst then you're better prepared. Although sandwiches in the freezer made with a 20p ys loaf of bread sounds like you know exactly what you're doing, in which case please stick around and share your tips :rotfl:. Hope the silly moo stops rabbiting <<rolls eyes>>, and I'm sorry to say there's only one way to avoid depleted chocolate stocks and that's not to buy it in the first place. If anybody knows any other ways then please do share.;)

Winchelsea - Welcome, I hope your FF-ing is going well.

CW2 - Welcome to the thread. I have the BeRo book too so I had to have a look for the Granny Loaf recipe that you mentioned. It sounds easy enough (for me :D) so I think I'll give it a go next time I bake. I usually do the Banana Loaf from the same book but this will be a nice change. Well you've got through days 1 & 2 and sound to be doing very well, all your meals sounds scrummy, and I love that it's all HM. Happy to hear that you still have 15.00gbpounds in your purse.:D

    Well news from Kerfuffle Kabin:

    Hi Folks, **snip
News from Kerfuffle Kabin: My next planned shopping day was going to be Thursday 21st but I'm going to bring it forward to the Wednesday 20th as it fits in better with Hubby's shifts, so as of today I'm aiming for a 6 day Fiscal Fast.
    .

With this in mind I'm going to have to change my next planned shopping day again as Hubby has upset my plans. So to get best usage out of the car and in an attempt to not waste petrol, I'm changing my next shopping day to Friday 22nd, instead of the Weds, so hopefully this week will be a 8 day Fiscal Fast.

I've made 2 batches of lentil soup this week, and will make another one tomorrow as I want to use the celery up before it goes past it's best. I've run out of eggs so can't make the Granny Loaf until after Friday so the bit of Banana Loaf that I have left will have to make do. I might raid the cupboards and see if I have enough ingredients to make something that doesn't involve eggs. I've done a roast chicken today and we'll have chicken salad for tea, roast chicken dinner for tea tomorrow and the rest can go in the freezer for soup/curry/chicken egg fried rice sometime. That was my last whole chicken though so here's hoping the rest of the stuff in the freezer gets used up quickly so I can defrost it and start building the stocks up again.

ETA: The $1.05 ( .66p) left over from my last spendy day is still nestled in my purse.

Happy frugaling Fiscalators (CW2 coined that name - not me ;))

Love that name Fiscalator, I reckon I'm going to be proud to be one :)

Going for Day 4, must get off my backside and get my lunch and snacks ready...thankfully the chocolate is finito, gone, chomped, so my conscience will be clear......

Won't be a NPD today as need to go into the office as the electrician rewiring my house is going to be joined by his mate to get lots done (not that he's been slacking the past 2 days!) and I don't think I can stand listening to all the geezer talk ;) Also, I guess I need to look busy and willing and all that, even if I'm on tenterhooks for a while longer.

Right, time to get our packed lunches done and greet the day!

Hi Chums I have finished my quiche off last night and i was very pleased with it I had to nip out yesterday to get some bits for DD as she was running low of both food and spare cash.(thats the worst of having to of her childrens birthday close together) but a few basic bits to help her though to the end of the month didn't bother me as she is such a good lass to me.But I have no shopping myself to buy this week anyway .First time I have realised there is nothing on my 'to buy' list by the kettle so I may get away with a slightly longer frugal fast, its only 10 days until the end of the month anyway and I still have over £23 20 left in my purse. I have stack of stuff in the fridge and freezer so I may give Saturdays shop a miss this week.
I have some painting to do on an old chair that I am renovating so that will keep me busy for a couple of days.Weather here is gorgeous at the moment,I have today off as my DD has a leiu day so I can potter around indoors for a change .Hope your all doing well, it seems as though the big supermarkets are getting cross because we're not all spending like we used to Shame isn't it, not :)Since I got my new processor I keep looking for new recipes to use up what I've got .I knocked up some small cakes for my DGS yesterday in a few minutes then decorated them and they were so pleased when they came home from school and two of their pals came home with them and 2 dozen small fancy cakes just vanished in the space of about 15 minutes .I may make some coconut & cherry scones this afternoon as I have several boxes of glace cherries in the cupboard and I know there is a box of coconut at the back of the cupboard as well.
Right I'm off for some breakfast and a large cup of tea
take care all and well done on your frugal finds

Thanks Kerfuffle. I love the Banana cake too - I'm definitely more of a cook than a baker, but don't mind the easier ones. Great for using bits up as well when you're trying not to spend any money!

    Good evening all,

So another day on the FF today. Managed to avoid any spends again today. Had breakfast at home and took a HM tuna and sweetcorn sandwich, HM cake and a tin of pineapple pieces from the cupboard for snacks (have run out of fresh fruit) to work. Had smoked mackerel fillets from the freezer and tortellini for dinner and I may just have another piece of HM cake from the freezer for supper later or I may quickly make some biscuits (I really fancy something sweet) :)!

Also managed to sign up for a product trial today through a survey site I'm a member of, so should be receiving some liquid gel washing detergent to test soon. Free way to get the washing done and saves me buying as much detergent next month!

So all in all a good day. Hope it continues into Day 4!

  • Thanks Kerfuffle. Good to see so many fiscalators getting on well.

We've had an expensive few days at this house on silly old habits, so no NSDs yet. Ah well - we live and learn.

JackieO, your mention of cherries and dessicated coconut brings back memories of my mum's fairy cakes with either of those mixed in, or the best of all - dead flies. Such simple treats looking back on it, but they were the highlight of our week.
