Day three for us - big batch cooking day to replenish freezer stocks and disaster! A couple of my onions were bad when I cut into them!
Spent $1.69 on a 2kg bag of onions from the vege shop - walked there and back so no spend on transport. Money came from my spare change pot so bank account not touched... Not too bad for our first go at this I think.0 -
We ended up going to the zoo on Friday which was rather expensive but at least we had a nice time and I avoided the gift shop. Yesterday was a NSD as we used up stuff in the fridge. I have warned everyone that we are in for some odd meals as I am going to be using up odds and ends before we go away next thursday.
Luckily there's only the three of us at home at the moment (two kids are away at camp) so it should be fine.Trying to keep in budget.

Haven't done brilliantly at fiscal fasting (and am in awe of JackieO's 15 day achievement) but have spent a mere fraction of what I would have spent normally, which is circa £100 per month on non-food, non-utility bill spends.
Have spent a total of £12.10 on food this month, mainly on fruit and veg, although £5 was storecupboard items, as I have noticed some things bouncing up by about 25% and wanted to get some in at the lower prices before all stores followed suit.
Yesterday, my trip to the bargain boxes at the Magic Greengrocer produced, among other things, the green peppers for tonight's chili con carne, which will feed me for several days, and some limes, which will mean that I can use some of the bulgar wheat in the storecupboard, as it really needs citrus to liven it up. Bulgar wheat salad is my planned workplace lunch for at least half the week, mebbe more. Pretty pleased with how the plans are shaping up.
I also splurged £1 at the chazzer with 50p on a prestige-brand stainless steel slotted spoon, pure steel with no handle to break, so should never need another one. That's been on the Wants List for some time, and that was my price point, plus another 50p on very useful hybrid between a shirt and a light jacket, which will be brilliant for gardening in, but not in high summer.
Today will possibly involve some spends as I intend to check out Wilko's and see if they have any seeds which will be good into next year at bargainous prices. It's sort of spaving (spend-to-save) as it will save me money on the 2015 gardening bill which, as I grow food, will be savings on the 2015 fresh food bill, also.
I try not to buy seeds at full price if I can help it, and save some of the bigger seeds such as runner and broad beans year-to-year. This year's runner beans had 100% germination, and were saved in 2011. I've lost count of how old the broad beans are but they keep on growing when slung into the ground.
Today I will do some baking (bread) and some cooking and pootle around here and possibly go to the allotment this evening when it's cooler. We had rain most of the night and it'll be wringing wet up there atm and I really need it to have dried out a bit for my planned activities.
Keep on with the good works, lovely peeps. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi, can I join in for this week?
I have to pay for hospital parking () as dd2 has an appointment mid week, I'm hoping only about £3, but I'm not counting that as a spend.
Then the rest of the week, me and kids will be finding free fun things to do, we have parks near us and we'll probably do some baking.
I also wanted to get the kids some workbooks to do over the holidays, but rather than buy them, I'm going to make someGC Jan -£100/£83.70
Debts - as of Jan 2015
Overdraft £1000/
Tax Credits £1100/0 -
Another NSD today, just been out playing tennis at a local-ish park, now for a bit of weeding then making tea and a catch up of the week's TV.
Yesterday we had the planned grocery shop, spent about as much as expected and shouldn't need to nip anywhere during the week, unless the bbq calls as we're out of charcoal
OH decided he wanted a chippy tea yesterday so I kindly let him pay for it
Edit: just remembered how much I was craving a milkshake on the way home whilst passing a maccy 's, but I resisted....just! Need to remember my times of strength when in times of weakness!
Also managed to get a bargain Xmas present in asda yesterday, they had 2 packs of Marvel men's socks (Hulk and Ironman, I think!) down from £5 to £2, that's a stocking filler sorted, he has to have socks, its the law
Now I have 5 presents for him, spent the grand total of £150 -

Lots of NSD's this month but also a few days when I did get stuff. I have not spent anything for another 7 days but will need to get some milk tomorrow and have a generous money off coupon that only has until the end of the week so I might as well use it and try avoid needing to come out again for another seven days. So will have a shopping list and look for some bargains tomorrow. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Another NSD here - as it's Sunday everything is shut so it's quite easy not to spend anything. Tomorrow I have to get a present for my niece and post it but I am going to avoid other spending!Trying to keep in budget.

Onto day 4 for us today - planned spend of petrol for commuting, DH agreed that he could probably eek out his petrol til Thursday.
4 loaves of bread made by DH last night, 1 consumed immediately it came out of the oven, other 3 are in the freezer. Looks like the motor on the mixer might have burned out tho.... best laid plans and all that! If it has, DH will be on kneading duty until there are funds to buy a new one.0 -
