Hi chums NSD today, I decided to change tonight dinner to a herby chicken parcel made in my 'mosky with new pots and runner beans .Baking this morning to fill up the cake tins and I'm pleased that I managed to save £22.20 from last months food budget which will go into my holiday fund.
So new month tomorrow, and Monday morning I will go to the shops
at the moment on my list i have only
Celery
tomato's,
bran flakes
cucumber although I have to go through my stocks this morning to see if I need anything else.
very pleased at June's f'fasting though and stashing extra cash towards the holiday will help no end next month.freezer is starting to look a bit better and not quite so full (I can actually get the drawers open without cussing)
Right off to sort some stores out have a great day, and keep a firm hold on your purses
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
morning all!
JackieO - you are really inspirational with all your meal ideas and moneysaving tips:T
I'm shopping this morning - list is made. I'm back on board trying to save as much out of my food budget as possible.
We're bought a small camper van to so we can have some cheap short breaks so every penny saved will be put in our holidays fund. Its so much easier to try and be frugal when you've a target in sight to aim for.:)
I'm defrosting a portion og veggie chilli for my tea - and there's some frozen chicken curry for the others plus frozen naan bread so thats tea sorted :T
If I get time I want to make a cake tomorrow plus maybe a HM quiche.
Keep up the good workDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Welcome Pinkypig, I'm self employed as well, but fortunately I work from home in a job I can more or less do at my own pace.
So if I have a really rough day with my arthritis or have had poor quality sleep it doesn't much matter. Hope Mr PP recovers well - and you are right, this is a lovely thread!
Pooky, somehow I missed saying happy belated birthday. How lovely of your MiL to be so generous - clearly she is very fond of you. Hi, I've been looking at this thread for a couple of days. I'm thinking of giving it a go.
In reality do you do it as a one off exercise or do you mean that you don't spend anything in between weekly shops?"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."Weight loss challenge:j: week 1~ Napoleon Bonaparte

Hi Aldahbra
The 'official' way to do it is that you don't spend for 7 days but also don't do a top up spend beforehand, ie if you don't have enough shampoo for the week you dig out any hotel freebies, if you don't have oil for cooking you substitute, dry fry or cook something different etc.
However people on this thread seem to do it in various different ways - for example I can't not spend on a Friday as I have a day with my son and we go to playcentres etc, so I'm trying to do Monday - Thursday every week without a spend.
Good luck if you decide to join in
I had a spendy day yesterday as predicted although I did get an amazing bargain in Boots using vouchers and free gifts - all from the 17 range, I got mascara, eyeliner, body bronzer, eyeshadow, nail varnish and concealer for £1! So pleased as it can all go into stores for when it's needed.
Will probably be spending today as well as it's the local carnival but will try not toMy debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Hi all - can I join in again? I did this several months ago but seem to have lost my way and need to refocus. My aim is to get through the week without spending - although I will need to buy some fresh fruit next saturday (slimming world diet!).44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
Well I'm off with my first NSD under my belt:j
I woke full of resolve yesterday and went through my cupboards and freezer - I even tackled the herbs and spices which I don't think I've done since I last decorated!
I have put a wet and miserable Sunday to good use as DS was at a party and DD was spending the day with friends.
I am quite proud to say I now have;
a jar of HM garlic butter
a large container of HM muesli with cranberries, apricots and flaked almonds
2 HM loaves and 8 HM bread rolls
a vat of carrot and coriander soup made with 1/2 a bag of very sad looking carrots and some herbs from the garden
a tin of jam crumblie (made cider apple jam my sister gave me and which the kids claimed not to like but funnily enough they seem to love it now!)
6 jelly custard puddings (Thank you Jackie O)
two bags of bread crumbs made from stale bread lurking in the bread bin which are now in the freezer but will be made into sage and onion stuffing to have with a roast later in the week.
:j:j:j:j
Tea was pasta bake made with left over pizza sauce from last night, salad and HM garlic bread.
I have had a lovely, productive day ready for what I know is going to be a hectic work at week. Feeling very positive just hope I can keep it up!
Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.Original mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.

Well done pinkypig isn't it great when you have a good day and can make something out of almost anything .I came home tonight from DD with a take-away box full of left over roasties which will be used up tomorrow night for dinner.I will slice them up and whack them on top of a couple of sausages and bung them in the 'mosky to cook with a small bit of gravy, after they start to looked well cooked(I rarely time things much, if they looked done then chances are they are done
)
grate a bit of cheese on the top and shove under the grill to bubble and voila 'sausage suprise' !!! I sound like Jean off Eastenders:):) but it uses up the LO roasties and stretches a couple of bangers to a tasty relatively cheap dinner. Some jelly and blancmange for pud and Monday nights dinner is sorted
I have to go to the dreaded shops tomorrow for my first shop of the month but I haven't a great deal to get so fingers crossed I won't spend a lot.Lunch is already sorted I will have some of my quiche that I made yesterday plus a few salady bits and bobs to go with it.Think Frugal is my watchword this month
Good luck everyone on the new month I am going to try Aldi's for my bits and pieces tomorrow morning
Cheers chums

Hi chums well had a very sucessful shop in Al*di's managed to spend a meagre £9.52 all together and have no more stuff to buy this week.I was suprised at how little I spent and how much I got for my cash.I'm not saying I would shop there for everything, but I certainly got all I needed. For my small amount I got
750gm Bran flakes
4 x baking potato's (good sized ones as well)
1 x packet of crispbreads (ok they're not Ryvita but crispbread all taste about the same when you've sloshed cream cheese on top:)
1 big packet rich tea biscuits (taste the same when dipped in my tea)
1 x good head of celery
1 x cucumber
400 gms strawberries (my treat for the week)
1 x big packet of on the vine tomatoes(5 large ones )
7 bananas
800 gms mild cheddar cheese
I am very pleased with what I bought and I'm hoping it all tastes as nice as it looks, but for under a tenner I can't grumble
definately no more shopping this week as I have enough in store to last me into next week with luck
Cheers chums0
