Cheap Tyres! (And tracking)

MY example: two Pirelli P6000 185/60R15 H. Supplied and fitted.

Kwik fit: £94 each
Vauxhall dealer: £68 each
https://www.tyre-shopper.com £64 each
https://www.blackcircles.com £58.57 each

black circles also do a 5% NHS discount, Airmiles or Shell plus points
tyre-shopper does Tesco club card points.

What they do is ship your tyres for a pre-arranged date and tyre to a centre local to you. You turn up, present your order confirmation email and voila.

And secondly...

Vauxhall tracking : £65

National Tyres: £22 with a free re-tracking at 30 days.

So in all... a potential transaction of £253 for only £131 (I also had three quid knocked off the tracking on presentation of my MOD ID card!)

  • I am constantly amazed at the vast difference in prices for the same thing.

I must be getting old but i can remember a time when things cost a similar price at most outlets.Sorry for the rant thanks for the info:D

    Have you tried http://www.tyrefitdirect.co.uk/index.php ?

They actually come out to your house or place of work and do them for you there and then. You can arrange the date and whether AM/PM. My girlfriend used them for her tyres and they were nearly half the price quoted at the local garage, plus much more convenient.

Their prices don't look particularly good to me, cwcw. :(

I suppose it depends on the tyre. My gf was quoted £80 a tyre for her Nissan Micra, compared to just under £50 a tyre on that website (including home delivery and fitting).

However, other sites I came across while shopping around for her included:

    http://www.valuetyres.co.uk/default.php?gsl=1

    http://www.bestbuytyres.co.uk/

    http://ssl.delti.com/mytires/start.html

    http://www.tyretraders.com/default.aspx

    http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/

I remember some of the above being cheaper than Tyre Fit Direct, but not doing home delivery and fitting.

Need to use https://www.blackcircles.com/msn for BlackCircles.com. You can get a £5 voucher each time you use it, and therefore if you order each tyre individually and use a voucher off each one it can work out even cheaper :);)

Cheap, but you can get cheaper. The Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 195/50 15 tyres I needed recently were £79.50 at Kwik-Fit, £56.68 Blackcircles, but £35.80 (including VAT, fitting, valve, balance, etc) at Costco.

dont know if this is ny help to anyone ...but ...we used to be £120 a tyre. and at costco £80a tyre...but just didnt have the money anymore ..nephew suggested we try a local brakers yard we tried it got brand new tyres with tracking for £50 might be worth a look if you dont have much money but need a new tyre
  • Also mytyres.co.uk are very good. Using the OP's example of tyres these are £51.60 each inc. delivery (direct link).

    HTH
  • After reading this thread, I booked a pair of tyres from http://www.tyrefitdirect.co.uk

For 2 Firehawks + fitting, balancing, valve & disposal of old tyres, I was quoted £106.22, (£15 cheaper than the nearest quote, not to mention the convenience of mobile fitting).

However, on the day of fitting, as I'm waiting at home for them to come, I get a call to say that "their fitter's van has broken down & their nearest alternative will cost me an additional £30 call out fee!"

Sounds just bit dodgy to me; wonder if they've tried that on anyone else?

Well, no way I was paying for that, so I went to Farmer's who had the same tyres in stock for £20 cheaper than their internet quoted price!
  • kwik fit and the like are useless how there are still in business amazes me
