File recovery site recommended?

Could anyone please recommend any reputable and reliable sites for file recovery?

I lost some pictures after a factory re-set. I know they are there as a couple have randomly popped back up in my 'pictures' file but I really want to get them all recovered and then I can get them backed up.

TIA

If you haven't already used any recovery software and some have "randomly popped up" (?!) then I would imagine that the drive contents weren't completely deleted, and you may just be able to run a search for them.

Most consumer-grade cameras (and images from most other sources) would be in JPEG format with either a .jpg or .jpeg file extension.

Could you expand on this for me please? As in what would be the procedure?

To clarify what happened I had to do a factory re-set as my PC froze. I chose the option which saved all your files (forgive me I can't remember the exact name of the option I chose but I remember clearly choosing this option). The re-set worked fine but sadly all my folders from my 'pictures' file went AWOL. Now what has happened is that completely out the blue, 2 pictures which I thought I had lost have appeared in a folder in the 'pictures' file!
All the pics were either from digi camera or mobile phone and uploaded to the PC.

Poppy10 - many thanks for your advice.

It depends on your operating system. I think Windows tends to have a search function in the Start Menu somewhere or in Windows Explorer...

Here's the MS guide for Windows 7:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Find-a-file-or-folder

You'd probably want to search for files matching the pattern *.jpg or *.jpeg (I guess you'd have to do two separate searches). Anyway, the chances are that your images will be in the same subfolder hierarchy, so once you find one, the others will be nearby (with a bit of luck!).

    Hope this helpse... :)

Yes it is Windows I am running.

Have followed the instructions on link you sent but with no luck :(.......the 'popped back up' pics appear but not the other lost ones.

I think I will just shell out the £20 for the Recuva site and keep my fingers crossed.

Many many thanks for taking the time to help. :)

I must have got confused...I saw the link for the free download but then next to it was the paying one - which I thought I would have to use.

Thanks for making it clear for me.:)
  • Sadly the Recuva didn't throw up my lost pics (and I done the deep scan as well).

There were lots of ones that had no preview so I recovered a few of them just in case but I couldn't view them as it said the files were corrupted.

I guess I am just going to have to realise they are most likely lost forever...lesson learned and I back up now but the words 'horse', 'bolt' and 'door' are applicable.

    Thanks to all for help:)
