Vendor won't let us view the property again until we sign the contract

another viewing and take a heating engineer with you. It's a stagnant market so they should be bending over backwards for you.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Boiler and electrics are a few k. Are current electrics or boiler unsafe? I doubt it if the property is lived in.
They sound like nightmare vendors. Whatever you decide remember, you are not purchasing the vendors, just the property. Once it is yours they will leave and have nothing to do with you (unless you wish).
I don't agree about the comment on this being a buisness transaction (unless this is a BTL). My assumption is this is to live in. Therefore think of this as your potential home. If you really like it then go for it. If you can get a better deal and are happy to look around a bit more then move on. Personally I would not let an old boiler and electrics stop me from buying if the location was as required.0 -
Maybe I'm wrong to expect this or that it would be useful.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I can't see them agreeing. They want 2 weeks between exchange and completion and we must complete by the end lf the SDLT holiday. We're out of time.
The only thing I can see is to work on getting some money off the sale price. That said they might then agree to a further viewing as it might be the case the boiler and electrics are ok and they wont need to drop the price.
Failing that then just accept that these are costs we will have to bear and we have sort of saved by not paying SDLT.
At the end of the day I'm not sure it's worth getting too hung up on these points. The age of the property sort of hints that theses things will need doing eventually so we kind of knew this a while ago.0 -
Scrubb my last post , the sellers are behaving very strangely...........
When we sold OH's mums house I would have allowed viewings almost any time day or night to help it sell. The couple who bought it had 2 viewings in one day (25 mile round trip for me .....did I complain, no of course I didn't. 24 hrs later they offered full asking price. Just as an aside, they were chosing between 2 properties and when they had a second viewing of the other one the seller was off with them and hardly spoke.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -

The more that is said, the more it sounds like there is something to hide.
You may have budgeted and expected to redo the boiler and electrics but there are far worse problems that they could be trying to hide. If the problem is structural the cost could be immense.
If this is a flat have you had details of the leasehold, term left, major works, accounts.0 -
you are thinking with your heart
if there IS a problem, how are you going to move?

We will get the management pack today. We got everything else yesterday and on paper it looks fine.
The more I think about this the more I think this is about the two elderly ladies living there and nothing to do with the flat. They don't like people in the flat, they don't answer the phone when the estate agent rings and they are very old fashioned.
I'm not convinced they are hiding anything, more that they don't understand the sales process and simply don't understand why anyone would want to check what they are buying after having seen it already.
I am told that they are signing the contract on their new place today. Not sure entirely how that can happen when we haven't signed ours to purchase their place and the paperwork says they require the sale to purchase their new place.
Double damn and blast the whole thing, I knew it could be bad but not this bad!0 -

Signing and exchanging are not the same. Each person in the chain signs with their own solicitors. Then when all are ready exchange takes place.
So vendors can sign but probably cant exchange.0
