Are you on Paperless Statements - read this.

Ive had an account with Nationwide for years and have always used their online banking service.
As such, Ive never really had the need to receive paper Bank Statements thru the post so I chose the "paperless" option.
This obviously saves a few trees but it certainly saves the Nationwide a few quid too.
So, imagine my suprise when I asked to receive paper copies of my last three months statements.
So, despite saving them £££s by opting not to receive statements, they now want to charge me £10 for receiving something which was actually free.
Of course, I have now changed the option on my account to receive paper statements thru the post from now on.
Crazy!

If you would like a copy of a paper statement to be sent to you, we can order this on your behalf. A charge of £5.00 per duplicate statement or annual summary and £10.00 for two or more duplicate statements or annual summaries will be applied.

Can't you print off the statements from online banking?0

which was actually free.
It was free at the time because they were being printed and issued in flight. Now they have to go back in and specifically isolate those statements. And they won't be able to utilise / merge them into the bulk print processes. ....... so clearly it all ups their costs.Of course, I have now changed the option on my account to receive paper statements thru the post from now on.
Pretty silly decision really! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

But that would not be a "proper" statement, mine are watermarked "This is an online document". It seems perverse that the financial institutions push for paperless accounts then those same institutions insist on seeing "real" statements for proof of income or ID.
I agree, which is one of the reasons why I have maintained paper statements as well as having online access - I reconcile my accounts monthly from the paper statements but use the online access to keep on eye out for known and unknown transactions.0 -

Instead of paying £5 per statement I suppose one could pay £10 and get all the information as a Subject Access Request.Whether the format of the information was acceptable is another matter.
Nationwide "on your side". With friends like that...
First Direct
"You can view up to six years of statements online within Internet Banking and request up to six years of past paper statements - absolutely free of charge."

Will they not order one for nothing? As its not technically a duplicate statement as you've never received one, natwest are free for 3 months worth0

My downloadable (.pdf format) Nationwide online statements are watermarked "Duplicate" (not: "This is an online document"). They look like a "proper" statement once printed, except for the watermark.
I usually can get statements in .pdf format back to 2008 (when I first opened the account) from the "Statement Archive".
In several years, have never had a problem having these statements accepted for proof of ID.
I think Nationwide provide an absolutely superb solution to paperless statements, whilst still catering for their customers need for the occasional paper statement.0 -

No need, as per the OP, they charge £10 for two or more - presumably because otherwise it would be done as a SAR
They do need to find a better way of doing things to avoid this as I keep paper statements for similar reasons as no bank, landlord etc is willing to accept online print offs0 -

Why do they not accept Nationwide printoffs? How can they even tell you printed it yourself? They look 100% the same as a paper statement sent by Nationwide through the post, except for the "Duplicate" watermark that surely nobody in their right mind would object to?0
