MSE News: Santander launches cashback current account

Just wondering if anyone has had any cash back yet for petrol on the 123card, we are pondering at the moment about changing our accounts over to 123 current accounts. I noticed on the cc site it says `some petrol stations operated by a supermarket may not fall within the petrol station catagory code and may only earn 1%` we usually fill up at Tesco and hubby uses a fair amount of petrol, it would be worth having this card at £3% for petrol but not sure if they use this clause to get out of it and only pay the majority 1% because they use a `supermarket petrol station`.0

Brilliant thanks, it had me worried for a minute... thought they were advertising it as 3% but might get away with 1% because of the `clause`.0

Very quickly - about two weeks from application to receiving card & pin.

This is useful link to see if your usual shops are included in the cash back on the cc. Just highlight the type of cashback, either supermarket, department store or petrol, or all 3, then type in the suburb, town or city you live and hit enter. I was surprised that some stores i expected to be included, like Aldi, were not, but some stores, like a local independent health food store, were. Worth checking before you shop to make the most of the cashback on offer:)

Latest on Topcashback today: "The 123 Current Account is open to new and existing Santander customers aged 18 and above (must be UK resident). TopCashBack Cashback is only available to NEW customers." It is as I suspected, unfortunately. So, to do this through Topcashback and get the cashback you have to open a new account and go through all the transfer process, get a new account number, debit card etc....0

Aldi do not accept Credit Cards, nor do Lidl. Expect this is why Aldi is not on the list.0 -

Don't know, though.
Topcashback have updated their website to say this cashback is available to NEW customers only.0 -
I share with 3 other young professionals and I already have a second bank account with HSBC that I use for paying all our bills & council tax.
Going to open an account here and use this for the bills intead. Worked out it will pay me back £40 a year after the fee. Not much, but might as well!! :-)
Now the dilemma is, do I tell my housemates what I'm doing and share the cashback with them, or do I just keep it all for myself as my fee for handling all our bills? :A0
