to bang it into gear would suggest easytronic im afraid ,so unless one has all the facts then its impossible to come to a proper thought
this is a daily problem with fault finding its as if people think you can read their minds0 -
To me 'bang it into gear' implies a manual car not an auto. An auto will either change or not. You can only use brute force on a manual.

fivetide, you don't know what an easytronic is, do you?
Unfortunately it does appear that the garage went on description of fault instead of diagnosing themselves and are surprised they are in way above their heads. At those prices they have to fix.0 -
It's a regular clutch (dry) but electronically controlled. No torque convertor like a full auto.
That said, in my experience anything electronic, by it's nature tends to be on or off. It either works or it doesn't so for someone to get the car in gear by brute force suggests to me a manual car.
Don't see what is wrong with that inference. s b says it instantly makes him think of the easytronic, for the reasons above, I'd jump to the other conclusion.
Don't see why people felt the need to ridicule the OP is all when it isn't (IMHO) a great leap of logic.
Happy to be corrected regarding use of easytronic when it goes wrong though, I do freely admit I've never been in that situation although I have forced gears home before.

EDIT to add. I just used the word auto to keep it simple. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
