Paying car garage but unfixed problem

Hi Jade-20, is it a manual gearbox whereby you physically have to change up and down the gears yourself using the clutch pedal or is it an automatic?
If it is the manual they have a common problem with the gear linkage needing replaced. The garage you have taken it to should be able to diagnose this if they were competent.
how many pedals on the floor would be easier of course
but heck shes passed her test she should know whether she has a manual a or a fully automatic driving licence for starters0 -
Hi Jamie1891, thankyou for understanding I need the 'ABC' language with cars haha.. It is manual. Ill suggest the linkages to them, I'm just worried anything I throw at them they will use it to rake more money on the bill. 240 at present I thought seems very cheap to me for new clutch and slave cylinder. Friends have told me clutch itself can be dearer than that!0

Go back to the garage and ask them if they checked the gear linkage and see what they say?
I can be almost certain that if the linkage has never been changed on your car then that is the problem as your model of corsa suffered this and it was very common.
Before you took the car to the garage did the car go in to gear without the engine running with no problems? This is a way to check if the clutch is dragging. Dragging makes it difficult to select low gears including reverse with the engine running. With the engine off there is no dragging so the gears would engage.
If the gears wont engage with the engine on or off then it is almost definately linkage on these corsa's.0 -
Yes,the gear linkage,could be a problem.
I think that by pumping, they mean the clutch hydraulics are still not, right.bleeding may be the term used.
They may have changed the slave cylinder when the master cylinder was at fault, maybe both were faulty.
The noisy gearbox, noise is normally due to worn bearings, could be causing stiff gear changes.
The main thing here is that you have taken your car into the garage to cure the difficult gear changes. The clutch, slave cylinder, noisy gear box and gear linkage may all be worn and faulty and contributing to your problem.

This actually makes sense. So what your saying is the hydraulics did go obviously because it felt as if my cable had snapped (I know it isn't a cable, just the way it felt) but also the linkages are the problem now with why the garage are saying the clutch won't pump? And the gearbox making noises with 1st + 2nd gear?
Before all this happened - 1st gear never had a problem with when running, 2nd gear was abit iffy wen driving sometimes had to release clutch and try again to get in, all higher gears were fine. Reverse gear was my main problem with the engine running, would lift the reverse lever but took several attempts to get across to the left to put into reverse.0 -

I am saying Jade ,they should have looked at the whole system, spent longer diagnosing the problem.Replacing 2 components has not fixed the fault, they are now saying it needs more things replaced. If they told you it needed a new clutch ,gear box.gear linkage, master cylinder, clutch pedal, slave cylinder, clutch pedal,it was bound to mend it as it would be all new.
They at best took an informed guess and you are paying for them to experiment on your car.
They are now not certain and as the bill is growing and until you pay it is them that has to pay for the parts, they are cutting there losses giving you your car back, getting you to pay for last weeks experiment.
Please dont pay,get your car back, and take it somewhere else, lets try to find somebody in your area that is competent, honest and will sort your car for you. Sean.0 -

Where did I say it was sinister?
But since you mention it - here is a new user with a username that sounds like a company name. Happens a lot on MSE for various reasons.
However he may just be a really really really helpful person.
