Have enjoyed reading through the tips and remarks on this thread. Thanks to you all - most helpful. One little thing I would add. As it was mentioned I always check my receipt but also I now also check my change, which was 20p short yesterday. Every little helps !0

I do shop at Lidl, Aldi & Farmfoods but mostly at Morrison's Canvey, still have to watch out for their "Specials" sometimes but many of the "Savers" range are excellent quality and Value, my Daughter actually prefers their Savers Coffee, great taste but you do have to use a bit more than you would normally but at 48p for 100g bag you can afford to. From experience though I would forget about their Savers Teabags and Fish Fingers, which was like chewing on rubber.
Savingqueen - Have you tried the Frozen Food Man in Pitsea Market on Wednesday? Can get some great food from him.
Rpitts - thanks for tips. Did think about Morrison's ages ago but forgot - will definitely try it and have 2 friends in Canvey so maybe can combine a trip and save petrol. I rarely go to Pitsea Market, never seem to see much but will check it out on Weds.

I have also just started a price book. I continually bore my family by telling them such and such is so much cheaper at Aldi!
:rotfl: . . . me too! I run a price book and have had to learn to rein myself in otherwise I can bore to Britain!
Shopping in Waitrose makes me realise how 'the other half lives' - I get a perverted sense of satisfaction walking round comparing the prices that they charge against Aldi prices!
That said, it is a lovely shop and top quality stuff . . . and I do buy the odd item as a treat - such as their 'value' range of scented soap - a bit of luxury at a reasonable price.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Hi Charlie's-aunt, what do you mean by a price book? How do you keep it up to date when prices continually change?0

Tesco
before (a couple of months ago): Tesco Finest ice cream range
Madagascan Vanilla
Colombian coffee
Devon Toffee
Rum n' Raisin
size 1L.... £3.99 EACH WITH ONGOING 2/£5 OFFER
NOW: Tesco finest ice cream range
Madagascan Vanilla
Cafe latte (w/ Colombian coffee)
lemon curd
butterscotch
size 500ml EACH WITH ONGOING 2/£5 OFFER
tesco told me this was due to using 25% more british cream - who knows if this is actually more cream at all!!
+ now using free range eggs (assume battery before???)
this equates to same price/ half the size apparently!!!!

Always check your receipt, a friend of mine worked checkout at one of the larger supermarkets, if a customer was rude to her then she'd make sure she scanned an item of theirs twice as revenge! I'm always polite to the checkout boys and girlsThere is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0

Douwe Egberts have reduced the size of their jars of coffee from 100grams to 95grams....same price of course
Also on the subject of coffee mate, my local Sainsburys doesn't do the large tubs of this any more so have to pay more for smaller tubs. However we went to Staples last week to get some stationary and they were selling big tubes of this and Nescafe coffee much cheaper than Sainsburys ever did so I bought a couple of them! There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -

One particular supermarket is guilty of raising the price of something for a week or so somewhere in the country only to be able to reduce it again by a couple of pennies and make it seem like a really keen deal. It ruddy-well isn't and the only way to know is to have a very clear idea of what the "usual" price is and how much it is at other supermarkets.Boomdocker wrote: »A top tip I got from The Tightwad Gazette was to keep a notebook of average prices so you know what you are paying.0
