I was on the verge of applying for TT BB and phone until i read this thread. I called TT today to enquire about the cost of help line. I was told it was free BUT message above implies it is £2 per call. What's the truth? If they do charge then I was lied to. Given all the problems, it wouldn't be long before any possible savings are eaten up by helpline calls.0

Please please please please please do not use any ISP's email service. It does not matter if it is TalkTalk, BT, Zen or AOL.
The reason is simple, if you do then you tie yourself to that ISP. I have been on the net for 10 years, I have had many ISPs, some good some not so good, none brilliant or terrible.
But why would you want to use an ISP's email addy? It just makes no sense at all. It is financial suicide and I am sure there must be some people out there who would move from one ISP to another IF they could.
I have heard the argument that it is nice to have your emails on your PC. Again I repeat that I have been on the net for over 10 years, I have lost 3 hard drives in that time so that argument is just duff, I have probably installed an O/S 10 times in those years too, everytime losing some (or all) the stuff on the hard drives. I recently switched to ubuntu, a free O/S, and my emails were totally safe because they are all stored at googles servers, and they date back for years because I never delete a single email. If I want to pull an email back from 2 years ago I can, it does not matter that my personal computer has dived since then.
Anyway, I do not want to go too far off topic. My point was that I have not got a clue if my ISP has problems with its Email server because I never use it.
Switch to a good web based email service (gmail is my recommendation). It does not matter how many bad days your ISP has and you are free to move if they really start getting on your nerves.0 -
I had a letter on 20th Feb informing me that I'd have no internet for 20mins as they upgrade there serviers. Well I've finally fixed it today.. the 25th! After nearly 100's of calls between Talktalk and Belkin (my router). I managed to blow up 1 router too impatient to wait for a replacement I bought another (£70) and it as all down to the DNS servers (is this due to the upgrade?? - I'm not sure!).
I was fuming! I must admit Talktalk CS was rubbish, I mean really bad! One agent answered the phone and said to ring back as he had not system! Why answer the phone then! Esp. after I had been qeuing for 15mins! Another said her system was down and that she couldn't transfer my call, or put me on to her manager I'd have to ring back! I work in a call centre environment if I ever saw any of the agents coming out with that they'd be up for very needed pep talk!
Needless to say it's all behind me now as I have internet again! And I'll still stick with talktalk as there just too darn cheap!! (and nasty if the truth be known!! lol)Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

All calls are charged and dependent on whom you ring it can be a minimum of £2 and then an additional cost of 10p per minute0

Since 21st I have had intermittent service and now basically no telephone, no email and sort of broadband. On Sunday they said it would be sorted by Monday. On Monday they said Tuesday and now 48 hours. As far as I can tell it's happening half way through Kent. What are they doing? making the wires to get the service up and running. I still haven't had any letter telling me something is going to happen even though it was sent out over a month ago. I was told last night that they would be compensating customers, but it stillhasn't solved the problems. Since Sunday our service has got so bad that I have to use my mobile as my phone lasts 20 seconds before diconnecting itself. I've spoken with their broadband and telephone departments today. They have finally admitted that they have a problem with their exchange in Orpington, Kent and yep you've guessed it , it should be fixed within 48 hours. Well that was at 2pm so let's see if it's still not working on Friday!
Talktalk call centre in outer mongolia now say they will have it all fixed by Monday!! Yep we'll believe this when it happens0
