TalkTalk e-mail down for 6 days and counting!

Options
If you're a TalkTalk Broadband user, and you make use of their e-mail service no doubt you'll have noticed it's been intermittent at best, or totally unusable of late.

Evidently there's a Server Down again, similar to the problem over Christmas, just that this server outage has lasted somewhat longer. This time TalkTalk do not have a resoloution date!

I know that here in the West Midlands users are affected, but what about the rest of the uk?

Amazingly the TalkTalk call centre staff, are aware of the problem, but have not been informed of a time to expect things to return to normal, so in turn the customer knows nothing! I understand that TalkTalk also class email as a "Value Added Service" and not a guaranteed service.

I've been a very happy TalkTalk customer up to this point, after all it's possible to manage without email for a few days, but an outage nearing a week becomes a joke. What happened to Backup Servers?

I'm hoping that we can establish who esle is affected by this outage. Please lets not just rubbish the TalkTalk service, because like me there must be a fair few other people that have been perfectly happy with the service up to this point? If you've contaced TalkTalk how did you get on?

Thanks,

Andy.;)

  • I'm a talktalk customer (phone and internet) and I too have been having some serious problems accessing my e-mails. This seems to have got worse over the last few days. Today things just fell apart!! I phoned talktalk and was told that it was due to the fact that I had Internet Explorer 7 and I was advised to downgrade to IE6. I did this but still couldn't access my e-mails! I contacted talktalk once again (£2.00 per phone call) and was told that actually all talktalk customers were experiencing problems. I was told that they HOPED to have the problem sorted within 24 hours. Somehow I doubt it. I live in the North West (Bolton)

I've been having email problems for over a week so contacted TalkTalk last Thursday and was told it was a Microsoft problem. Microsoft referred me to Sony (the make of my laptop). I gave up then as I felt I was on a wild goose chase.

As recommended by MSE I got a googlemail address as I was expecting exam results on Monday by email and wanted to be able to get them.

My sister started to get the same problem yesterday so I knew it was a TalkTalk problem.

I phoned them again this evening and they confirmed there was a problem. I was told it would be resolved by the end of the week!

To access emails you can go on to https://www.webmail.talktalk.net

This was successful for me earlier but failed a few minutes ago.

I hope this may help other users.

I've spoken to TalkTalk again as I now can't access webmail for my emails. I was told the problem will be resolved by 11am tomorrow. I will wait and see!!
  • I'm in Bristol and I've been experiencing email problems for a few days. Emails are taking days to come through! I came here to see what was going on, rather than call talktalk (postings above show that TT were fobbing people off with excuses). I wouldn't mind so much if TT would come clean and post an apology. Such cynical customer service suggests something rotten...

To add injury to that insult, we recently had our local BT exchange fitted with TT equipment so my land line calls don't go via BT anymore. As a consequence I've lost the use of some override providers (e.g. 1899). I'm beginning to regret getting involved with TT, but we're locked in for 18 months.
  • I'm in N Ireland and having e mail server problems with TT broadband. However, thanks to PIppa, I was able to access my Inbox via the link provided. Thanks again PIppa.
ANGER is one letter away from DANGER
  • Well, what do you know, TT have posted this - it comes up when you try to access webmail.

"Dear Customer, We have been experiencing problems with our email service over the last few days. To resolve this issue our engineers will be carrying out an emergency upgrade on our platforms tonight at 11pm. This should resolve this issue. We anticipate that our email application will be restored by 9am, Thursday 22nd February 2007. Talktalk would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused during this difficult time."
  • Checked for e-mail this morning, and they came flooding in at a rather spritely pace!

Looks like after the Service Message was placed on Web-Mail the people behind the scenes have done something, and so-far so good.

Thanks for getting it sorted in the end TalkTalk, but please let your staff, and in turn your customers know whats going on next time!

    Andy.

I am in scotland and like the rest of you have had problems for about a week. Due to the lack of help the last time this happened I didn't bother contacting them this time.
Was up and running again this morning but am now scouring for another provider as the problem is becoming more frequent. On average about once a week now I am having problems getting my emails.
I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!

i dont have any faith in talktalk email my father in law has been unable to use it properly for weeks i persuaded him to get a gmail address he is so much happier
  • As a way of testing your email service you can send yourself an email and compare send and receive times. The email doesn't appear to take any short cuts to get back to you, but (AFAIK) goes the same route as one from anywhere else in UK.

My test email this morning took 35 minutes to get from my computer back to my computer, although it was marked as "received" (by talktalk?) the same minute as "sent". Anyone know what one should expect?
