Why am I using so much KWH of electricity ?

Meter read 21537 at 0830 this morning.Sitting at 21547 at 2100 hrs.Bearing in mind it will be bedtime soon.....looking more like the underfloor heating in the ensuite
Will hopefully update in the am saying we have a result :j
12x365 = 4380 is a lot better than 32x365=11,680
Any idea what the UK average annual consumption is ?12 panels south facing,8 panels south-east facing,4KWP system, pitch 40 degrees,Aurora inverter & location is sunny Glasgow.0 -

I think it's 3300kwh for electricity but then averages are fairly meaningless IMHO...Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Underfloor heating rule of thumb is 150W per square meter. If you're looking for a spare kW or so of electricity then 6 square meters of ensuite would do the trick. Might want to just use it to have a warm floor when you step out of the shower rather than try to heat the whole house with it0

Today at 0830hrs the meter read 21552
Yesterday at 0830 it was 21537
Used 15kwh on a day when all the family was home so it looks like the Devimat electric underfloor heating in the ensuite was the problem as I had been averaging 32kwh a day.
Tiles were cold though when I came out the shower  this morning.
Will be interesting to see what the reading is tomorrow morning on a day when the kids are at school and my wife and I are at work.
I would expect to use even less.
May even reconnect my fridge/freezer in the garage and fill the empty freezer with cheap bread and get my wine back in the fridge.:beer:12 panels south facing,8 panels south-east facing,4KWP system, pitch 40 degrees,Aurora inverter & location is sunny Glasgow.0 -

I think 15kWH/day is about the national average, but that obviously varies hugely. I use about half that, but my sister uses more in a house full of kids.
I agree, run the underfloor heating for less than an hour in the mornings and you'll have a warm floor but hardly notice the extra electricity. All depends whether you can afford the luxury of warmth0 -
How did you get the figure of 50W? My laptop only uses 35W when it's running (when idle and fully charged). The desktop does use a small amount when on standby but I'm quite sure it's not 50W.
I measured it! To be clear, 2 PCs and 3 monitors in total were using 50W.. not one desktop alone.0 -

Thank you..That is awful. I know the motherboard is powered waiting for a wake on LAN signal but did not think it would be that much at all. That's 10W for each device. Maybe the accuracy of your energy monitoring device is only accurate to that level. It is hard to measure very low current levels using cheap energy monitors.
I know - but products that are 6 or 7 years old, designed 8 or 9 years ago, are from a different era by today's standards.
I use an Energenie measuring plug which I think is quite accurate (it gives realistic measurements down at the 1W level for my RF power switches) - and even if it's 10% out, that's still a stack of juice that was being wasted.
I've got the annual consumption down by about 8% since I started taking an interest and there are more gains to be had yet.0 -
Original poster back on.Last three days I have used ,16,13,15 kwh compared to the daily 32kwh.
Considering that the underfloor heating was only on for a couple of hours in the morning and the same at night-it's a big saving.I think the saving over the year on electricity costs will allow me to buy gold plated slippers:D
Joking aside though,I never realised that devimat electric underfloor heating was sooooooo expensive to run :eek:12 panels south facing,8 panels south-east facing,4KWP system, pitch 40 degrees,Aurora inverter & location is sunny Glasgow.0
