It's mom or mommy. A mummy is a few thousand year old corpse wrapped in bandages.

If that were true, this entire board wouldn't exist....

I was going to have a rant about this very subject on a similar thread a year or so ago - I however did a bit of "research" and indeed found out that "Mom" has been in use in certain parts of the country long before the Pilgrim Fathers went west.

However, having seen people who have been no further north than the M4 use this term, I suspect that much of the use is a combination of creeping Americanisation and general "thickness". A bit like some people convinced that 911 is the number to dial for the fire brigade.

Try it on your mobile - it works on mine - just like 999 and 112. All three numbers automatically deactivate the keylock and tell you to just press the call button to call the emergency services.

Don't know why but I'm getting really fed up with people using the word 'mom' instead of 'mum', 'mam' or 'ma' etc - this isn't the US so why the americanism?

There really are only small region's in the UK where saying 'mum' sounds like 'mom' - so why use it?

The number of usernames on here springing up usng it, such as 'xxxx's mom' is getting me annoyed as well.

Yes, there are greater worries in the world but I just wanted to vent anyway.
I call my Mother, Mother, NOT Mum, Mam or Mom. On the flip side I call my sperm doner, IT. ;)

Mother, mummy, mum, mom, mammy, mam, ma, masey - depending on where in the UK the mater and offspring are.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
