A vent - it's MUM not mom!

Don't know why but I'm getting really fed up with people using the word 'mom' instead of 'mum', 'mam' or 'ma' etc - this isn't the US so why the americanism?
There really are only small regions in the UK where saying 'mum' sounds like 'mom' - so why use it?
The number of usernames on here springing up usng it, such as 'xxxx's mom' is getting me annoyed as well.
Yes, there are greater worries in the world but I just wanted to vent anyway.

All because it does not apply to you, why should others not use it? In the West Midlands it is very common. Get over it.0

Yes, Black Country born and bred here, its always been Mom, nothing to do with Americanism.I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

I didn't know about its use in UK as above but in South Africa its used. When a friedn went there to live she couldn't ever get a Mother's Day/birthday/Christmas card with Mum on it, it was either Mother or Mom. She only ever referred to her Mum as Mother when she was sounding off to her, so she had to send ones with Mom (which her Mum hated getting BTW.)0

This.
Very very common in the West Midlands, and considering the population of Birmingham and the black country alone is over the 1 million mark its hardly what you'd describe as a 'small region'.0 -
If you're from, the North-East, it's Mam. So you're entirely wrong0

But surely hon is more 'correct', it's short for honey is it not? It was only Winnie the Pooh who called it hunny!0 -
