Parking fine from Excel Parking Services - advice?

Hi everyone. Today a friend had to visit their local hospital for an appointment, and they parked the car they were using in the car park there. It was rather busy but they found a spot at the end of a block of two rows. There was a car opposite the spot, it wasn't hatched, and all looked legit - so they paid £3, popped the ticket in the window and off they went.

One diagnosis later and they return to find a bright yellow ticket from 'Excel Parking Services' for £60 (£40 if I pay within 14 days) on the car.

They really feel that this is an unfair ticket and are hesitant to open their wallets to a company they've never heard of. So I come to you on their behalf, wise MoneySavers, and ask if there is anything they can do? Or should they just cough up?

Many thanks in advance.

What you should do is read all the other threads on here that deal with private parking tickets. They you will hopefully come to the conclusion that you don't owe the company a penny and that you should all the silly letters they will send to you.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Thanks, I've read a few threads and the Stickies - just wanted to be sure my situation fell into the same bracket. I think I will have to prepare my shredder for some serious action in the coming months.

    Hi tbs,

First things first. Please take down your link as it gives too much detail.

Now, to the point. This reply entitles you to a 100% discount on your invoice (Not "fine") as is genuine, unlike the piece of bog roll on your car. The only thing you need to cough up is whatever the doctor asked you to at the hospital.

You paid to park, the space wasn't clearly marked and to a normal person it looked fine. The problem is that Excel are not normal people! Take a look at the stickies for the letters the registered keeper of your car can expect. They do not have to identify you as the driver, whatever the papers say.

Whatever you do, don't appeal as this is a waste of time and make sure you pass the ticket to the registered keeper for their records.

Edit: Took too long posting. You can safely take Trisontana's advice.

Also, don't respond to PMs unless it's from a poster with a large number of postings eg Trisontana, Taffy, Alexis. PPCs sometimes e-mail you to get details.
  • We will get you barred from this site if you pay up!

It is, pure and simple, a scam. You paid to park, so you don't owe the hospital one penny. Along come some total parasites and try to make you pay extra? Do not fall for it.

This so-called charge is completely unenforceable. They will tell you they can do this and they can do that, but I'm afraid these parking companies make politicians look truthful.... all they are about is trying to extract money from people who don't realise they have no authority whatsoever to try to "fine" you.

Allyou need to do is to simply pretend it has never happened. They will do their best to remind you with a series of letters... increasing in their hysterical tone.. the amount will go from £60 (no-one gets the "reduced" rate because they always say your cheque arrived too late) ..to £100.... to £150.... then maybe a reduced figure again.... but it invariably ends up as £0.00 when they realise they aren't fooling you and cut their losses and clear off.

It always happens. IGNORE gets rid of these parasites every time, much more effective than malathion or DDT, and no side effects.

I got out of my car and saw that there was no white line on the other side, but to any normal person it looked like a totally normal space - I didn't block the road, didn't cause any problems.

I really feel that this is an unfair ticket and I'm hesitant to open my wallet to a company I've never heard of. So I come to you, wise MoneySavers, and ask if there is anything I can do? Or should I just cough up?

You have paid for your parking (and hopefully kept the ticket to prove it) so the PPC have not lost anything by your alleged actions. They have no legal power to fine you or issue a penalty and their demand for payment is laughable in the circumstances. Don't engage with them, unless you want to go the harassment route advocated by GivethemFA:)

Very interesting advice on these forums about Excel Parking Services. My car received a ticket yesterday wanting extortionate parking charges of £100 (or £60 if paid within 7 days). I shall ignore, and report back here when things get interesting!!

Trust me, the most interesting things will get is that you might receive letters asking for even more extortionate money.
