I got married in the Apex City Quay hotel last year and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Although the hotel itself is lovely it's just a pity the staff and service isn't as great!!
I think you can also get married up in the observatory (http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/mills/main.htm) which I think would be nice!!

That's a real shame. I got married at the Apex International in Edinburgh in 2005 and the service we got was fantastic!

Our wedding co-ordinator was on hand from noon til 1.30am and the day couldn't have gone any better. The staff were all really pleasant.

Sorry, can't help with Dundee venues though.

I used to book dinners for a company in Dundee, and Apex Dundee got such a bad reputation for the staff who worked there that we stopped using it. There was a really important dinner arranged for over 100 people and they "forgot" to put the wine on the table before the guests arrived!

I'm sure you can get married on Discovery as well. I've just googled and you can get married in Bonar Hall in Dundee, but I don't know anything about it. Forbes of Kingennie came up as well, as well as Perth Racecourse!

I've been to a few receptions in the Bonar Hall but not an actual wedding ceremony - but it is a LOVELY place. They have smaller rooms upstairs (good for the ceremony) and a large hall with a stage for the reception. They can change the size of the hall depending on your numbers, and I think you will need outside caterers but don't quote me on that.

The best thing about the Bonar Hall, IMO, is that the bar is OUTSIDE the main hall. So for people who don't like the loud music, they can sit in the loungue/lobby/bar area away from it all. And people queuing for a drink doesn't clog up the dancing or whatever.

And again becuase of it's placement it's great for the university gardens.

You can get married on the Discovery-, but the Captain's Table only sits about 12 people, iirc, which means it keeps the costs down, as you can have a reception somewhere else at night-time- and buffets are much cheaper than a sit-down meal:D
The Discovery is gorgeous, though, would make for some wonderful pictures

The Discovery is a nice idea ailuro2 but not sure if it would be a good idea little miss Highland is 19 months at the mo, so would be around 3 when we do get married and I think we would need space for her and my bridesmaids lo to run about. I emailed them to send me info (2 weeks ago) and havent heard a peep yet might give them a ring.

not like the people at Discovery not to get back in touch, I know the marketing manager there and she's very good, i can only imagine they must be really busy or she's on holiday! Discovery also have rooms inside the building, so perhaps you could also use them, and perhaps depending on the time of the year they maybe can put a marquee up or something - I don't know, but might be worth calling them again.

  • If you call the Registrars on Commercial Street in Dundee - 01382 435222

They can send you a pretty good free DVD about civil / registrars marriges and venues in Dundee.
