Awwwwwwwww I'm dead chuffed, Thanks Martin

Although not too sure how I feel about being described as hardcore :o

Maybe it's payback for :money: Martin Says No :money:

    :rotfl:

I'm on track for another no spender today which makes it exactly one week of not spending a single penny other than the BFs, which I'll get back anyway :T

Crikey one whole week............. makes you wonder what the hell we were all spending it on before hand

Good Luck everyone for the rest of the week and the weekend. I'm finally off to complete the move (feels like it's been going on for weeks!) but I'll soon be back.

Stay strong, keep motivated and be there for each other :A

Having done summat similar in January, I confess I was GIDDY with excitement at the thought of being able to go out again and spend on evenings out/DVD & CD Treats...
I'm focussing on living out of my bank account "pots" (something I set up ages ago when I first got myself into all kinds of financial trouble) and basically that's my treat budgeting.. if it can't be met out of those, then tough nuggies! Can't have it!
That way my credit card is only for real emergencies...

I'm not sure I can give up money for Lent as I have a lot of birthdays/travel coming up...

But... I think it is a cracking idea. I will be saving for a house soon and I am hoping that the start I made in January will hold good and my goal to give up credit cards almost for good (exceptions being mileage/corporate charge cards for work related expenses).

    Good luck all...

  • Hi all!

Have to say I'm well impressed at the lengths people are going to with this :)

After Christmas I decided that I was going to do something like this with the hope of transferring all of my cash usually spent on non essentials to paying off my credit cards. My situation wasn't dire but I was just fed up with having credit cards and think that it's much better to save for things than to put them on credit.

I calculated how much I needed to leave in my bank account for direct debits and budgeted the rest (and I mean everything) into paying off my cards, so there's no spare cash in my bank account at all.

I do not carry cash in my wallet so cannot buy anything at work - I bring in my own lunch and drink water from the (free) water cooler all day. I have not been to the shopping centre so cannot buy clothes or 'emergency' shoes! To fund the Asda shop I have sold one of my spare Justin Timberlake tickets to a friend and have sold some stuff on ebay.

All in all it's gone very well. I started in mid-January and am proof that it can be done so to everyone out there doing the same - please stay motivated!

The only problems are that occasionally I have so little energy when I come home from work that I cannot be bothered to cook so we get a takeaway :( and a bit of a major slip up was when I played on my sis-in-law's Nintendo Wii and it was soooo good I absolutely had to buy one. It has kind of been a good thing though, as instead of going out to play bowling/pool and paying for it, I have my friends round and we play on the Wii, hence saving a little money and offsetting the cost of the Wii a little!!!

I shall hopefully be finished by 1st May and will have cancelled all of my credit cards!

  • That's my challenge. Which is quite hard as I'm now a long way into my tree and have mainly exhausted the free stuff. I now need to order document copies or wills from archives etc. Or buy more credits on Scotlandspeople for the Scottish searches.

And there are books and files in libraries and archives I need to see......

But I will not count petrol to visit aged relatives in this challenge as they are all in their 80s now and time is not on my side in this. Or posting stuff I've found off to them (as they can't open email attachments or don't have computers) And my outstanding Interlibrary loans will have to be paid for when they turn up. (£3.50 a shot is really cheap at the price - your local library will do it for you and the British Library automatically gets a copy of all the books published in the UK so they will probably have what you want)

So I will hide my credit card and not allow myself to use it online at all and I will be really good and tidy up my files and input it all onto my ancestry tree and my Genes Reunited tree and feel super virtuous and smug.

Crikey Good Luck with your own personal challenge SFR.

I'm still waiting for my van to turn up grrrrrrrrrr....
I'm starving hungry............... I've packed all the food up................. I will not go to the shop!!!!!
    I will not spend money!!!

Eventually people I will get moved honestly.
I've actually spent my morning doing some extra packing and working out my shopping list on asda website and meal planning etc. I've also picked out some stuff to re-build store cupboard as I've been using quite a lot of it.

Heres hoping my van turns up soon!!!

    Hiya
Not been on much as i've been studying but i'm still going strong. I've also taken some clothes back to tesco's as they were really badly made and wouldn't have lasted two minutes. They tried to get me to go and change the clothes but I asked for the money to be put back into my account. Then, unheard of this, I walked out without buying anything. In the past i'd have popped in for bits I didn't need and spent about £15. Very pleased with myself!

Well done everyone for doing so well xx

  • I haven't looked at the site in a couople of weeks and have so totally fallen off the moneysavings wagon ...
I noticed the Lent challenge and I'm up for it! So, is it too late to join?

I have no signature yet as this is my VERY FIRST post - see how excited I am?
  • Just had to pay for a repair on a fault on my car. It wasn't budgeted for, but as I need the car for work, a necessity. Was thinking of telling the garage that I wouldn't pay for it, as I've giving up spending money for Lent but then decided, probably best not :rotfl: (wonder WHAT they would have answered :rotfl: )
Then quickly went to Lidl for milk and pasta....and came out with milk and pasta! This is the first time ever that I didn't look at all their special offers (was very tempted though), so another day with no money wasted :j
