What sorts of things did you have on your list? And how many people was it for? I'm sure if we juggle about with the laws of averages it wont work out too bad.

I too am going to need to be very regimented with my shopping bills so I'm going to spend an hour or so reading thru OS and see if I can find the cheapest meal plan known to man!!!

Well, there was nothing spectacular in there and it covers 3 adults, one 11 year old, one 12 year old and a cat.

I am trying really hard to be moneysaving - so bought washing powder plus soda crystals instead of usual washing tabs (hopefully will last me a long time for cost of £5), bought bread making ingredients, staples such as pasta (asda's big £1 bags!), cheese, stardrops (see - told you I am trying to be good!!), cheap coffee, porridge, own brand for almost everything - cereal, jam etc, bought all fruit and veg in season to get it as cheap as poss, so parsnips, sprouts, cabbage, apples, potatoes etc a reduced piece of fish to fill out a fish pie (I have got a bit of fish in the freezer but not enough to feed all of us!) etc etc.

I have been through the receipt and my shopping list again to make sure that there is nothing unnecessary on there and cannot see anything I should not have bought.

This does cover packed lunches, main meals and cleaning etc for all of us, so I suppose £11 per person for a week is not too bad.

I just wish it was less!!

My meal plan includes such luxuries as fish pie, jacket potatoes, cheese and beans, beef stew and dumplings, tuna pasta bake. No desserts, no steak, no lobster, no fois gras etc!!

Perhaps I should reaquaint myself with the OS board too.....

i think that really you've done quit well considering.

And think you're not going to use all of it in one week, I know how big those bags of pasta are!!! so next week it could be less.

What would you like it to be ideally?

  • Hi everyone,

Two NSDs 'cos I've been in bed feeling poorly. My bf knows I'm doing this challenge and was really good at the weekend by not letting me be tempted by unnecessary spends when we were killing time in a shopping centre before our eye tests. And he didn't buy me anything, either to 'help' me get around it

Everyone else seems to be getting on well, too. This is such a good challenge, and although I always try to do it myself, it's too easy to slip without a bit of support. I'm also not allowed tea, coffee or booze for a week (or longer if I can manage) because of the medication I've been prescribed, so that will definitely help the challenge. It's not helping me though, because I can't even go in the kitchen for one of the hotel sachets I snaffled the other week, I now have a craving for the biggest, foamiest, cinnamon-flavoured, most expensive coffee I can get my hands on. Thank goodness I don't feel well enough to leave the house :j

I'm getting my fill of the internet for this afternoon as it's big moving day tomorrow with The VAN! lol
So my broadband wont be connected until friday at the earliest, god what am I gonna do for 2 days ...................... well knowing BT it'll be a damn sight longer.....

Im glad everyone is having fun with the challenge as well as learning a few things about themselves in the process. I'm going to be doing my food shop on thursday, and if I'm really lucky and play my cards right my mum might pay for it........... ahh the joys of being 22 and the youngest of the family :)

    Hi all.

A NSD for me - even though I went to several meetings in London - usually my downfall. The last time I went to this particular client I spent over £10 on lunch and coffees so I'm glad this challenge saved me from myself today. On the train on the way home I sat next to a man sipping a cinnamon scented coffee and I enjoyed just inhaling the fumes.

TurnaroundSue, I agree that £75 sounds expensive for a pot. You've got some time to shop around and see if you can find a nice pot for less. But if not, I'd say such an important and one-off purchase is allowed.

Hypno - £55 doesn't sound a lot for a week's shopping to me! I wish I could get mine so low.

CAFCgirl thanks for allowing me the theatre tickets yesterday, I've decided this can come out of my present budget, an area I'm doing very well on thanks mostly to having received lots of lovely things for my birthday last month which I can recycle.
