My hubby once sent something in an envelope that got damaged.
The post office put the envelope in a clear plastic bag that said something along the lines of "Sorry your item got damaged" and delivered that to the adressee (ie not my hubby)
As it happens the adressee was his uncle who sent hubby the plastic envelope back and hubby claimed from royal mail - and within a week or 2 got a cheque!0
