O2, Lowell
Hoping to get some advice here. I have been regularly contacted by Lowell in relation to a mobile phone debt from O2 Which I have also found out there is a default for this registered on my CRF.
I have repeatedly ask Lowell for proof that I own this debt as I have only had Orange phones, All they have every sent me was copies of old phone bill and have stated that The account was opened on the 10th November 2005 and disconnected for non-payment on the 01st August 2007. They last received a payment on the 29th May 2007.
And apparently this is the only evidence they need.
I have been in contact with O2 and they have been less then helpful.
So today I contacted the CEO of O2 and received and email stating
"I’m unable to give you any information as you’ve emailed from a different email to the one on the account. I’ve replied by letter to the xxxxxxxx address."
I also spoke to the Executive Relations person on the phone too and they stated they cannot speak to me as I don't know the password on the account.
So now I'm waiting for a letter from O2 which I believe will just say I have to pay because they say so type of thing.
Do mobile phone companies have to provide proof that I own this debt and what constitutes as proof that I own this debt and surely I have the right to contest and request the information to prove this.
Any Advice would be greatfull received

Looks like ID fraud (not clear though why the thief paid from 2005 till 2007?).
Without proofs they cannot claim anything from you. You can just ignore them, but are likely to get a better advice on the Debt-Free Wannabe board.
Unfortunately, even without proofs, they can easily trash your credit history and they almost certainly have already done this. The good news is that it clears after about 6 years.0
