Any advice?...£32 is the cheapest I can find for the 17 days...I dont plan to drive in Europe again in the next 12 months..so a yearly policy isnt worth it...
Famous last words.....Ive found a yearly European Breakdown Policy, including Home Start, (which i dont get with First Call) for a mere £45..only £13 more than my 17 day cover....so Ive taken it..
This is through a friend, so not sure if shes given me her "brokers discount" or not to get it this cheap........
Late Edit....this was through Axa, if this is any help to anyoneCouponing....."every little hurts"

Hi
Looking to get breakdown cover and for what i want Gem Motor Assist and Brittania come out cheapest - any feedback on these 2 companies by people who have actually dealt with them?
Do they both use independants?
I've only just seen this so it may be a little late. I've been with Britannia for a few years now and have called them out a few times. They have always responded within an hour - usually taking around 40-45 minutes - and, with one exception, have got me going at the roadside. They use independent garages but their call centre operators are very helpful and, when I had my most recent breakdown, the operator called me a couple of times while I was waiting to make sure that everything was OK and to let me know when they were going to reach me.
Cheers

These tips all seem great for new sign-ups, but what about renewals?
After getting a good deal from the RAC last year my policy has jumped by about 25% this year. Will the tactics used for mobile phone contract renewals work?0 -

I dont see why it shouldnt work, everyone is desperate for business, so will possibly negotiate..
I went to buy some Euro today, managed to get 1.09 to £1 from initial offer of 1.07,,,,was happy with that, altho she seemed to give in too easy lol.Couponing....."every little hurts"

I'm shocked to discover that my OH's AA breakdown cover is 220 quid. This includes Roadside at 53.50, Home Start for 49.50, Relay for 50 (What is relay?) and Breakdown repair cover for 69.50
He has just had the car repaired so we will scrap the repair cover, we don't really need the home start, but what is the relay thing about? It doesn't even include joint membership as I don't drive his car.
He wants to continue with an automatic cover as he has found it really hassle free when he used it so far, but surely we can be paying less? I had a look at the various other covers but am rather confused by them.0 -

What is Relay?
If your car can't be fixed quickly or easily, Roadside Assistance will take you to the nearest suitable repairer. But what if you're a long way from home…?
If you add Relay we can take you, your vehicle and up to seven passengers home or to any UK destination of your choice. This could be somewhere you need to get to, a garage you know, or just safely back home.
How Relay could help you
Last year over 150,000 Members used their Relay cover to get them to where they needed to go – that's over 400 every day with an average recovery distance of nearly 60 miles.
Imagine you've been to Alton Towers and just as you're leaving something serious goes wrong with the car. Without Relay, a private tow from Alton Towers to London, could cost you over £250.
Whether you're on your way to that important interview, visiting relatives or just out and about, Relay will ensure you get to where you need to be.0 -
Has anyone else had a problem with Green Flag (or any other company) taking money (repeatedly) from you without authority? ie: Claiming they have a continuous payment authority, despite having been very clearly told from the outset that they do not, then being told they do not every time they send a notice they are about to take money under it. Being told they do NOT have such authority - and even them confirming in writing that they do not.
After receiving the notice they are about to take an unauthorized payment from my credit card for the third year running despite the above, I have finally given up and cancelled everything. - Now Direct Line has just done exactly the same thing for my home insurance :-(.
My advice: - NEVER give credit card continuous payment authority!
It may be "convenient" but you will invariably find that subsequent years renewals are significantly more expensive than a new quote (they assume that you won't look) and worse: Once given, you cannot cancel payments from your own credit card. Only the company you gave authority can do so.0 -
Hi, for the last two years we have used vehicle-rescue.com (also google vehiclerescuedirect ) for our annual ski trip to France. They do not seem to punish owners of older cars, ours is a 1998 toyota granvia people carrier. They cover up to 15 years old while most sites only cover up to 10 or 11 years old. They also cover up to 6 passengers. Thankfully we have never had to use the policy but they are properly registered with the FSA and the policy details are easy to understand and the level of cover appears as good as any. 8 days cover as above this year: £24.75, less than half that the AA wanted and I have been an AA member for years now. Makes me think it is time to change!0

This company is the probably the second best company I have ever dealt with ever and I am probably one of the most discerning customers you could wish for.
They do exactly what they say. I have been with them at leats ten years and have made probably five claims in that time and they ave been brilliant.0 -
