If the lender sold it then they have to consider pre-regulation complaints. If it was a broker/adviser, then they do not.
Most Mortgage insurance complaints fail. Why do you think yours was mis-sold?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. The CMC is right then. This predates regulation by the adviser.
Even if could complain, it wouldnt likely have succeeded as adviser sold MPPI has very low complaint stats. If it was monthly premium (direct debit) and not built into the debt then its hard to argue you didnt need it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I took out a loan with Northern Rock about 8 years ago and I remember VERY clearly being told I'd need to take out insurance but that I could do this myself. I did this and have been paying it ever since with another company. I queried the PPI mis-sale thing with NR and they say they wouldn't/didn't say this as PPI wasn't needed. I wouldn't have shopped around if I hadn't thought I needed it. Do I have a claim against NR? as I can't really claim mis-sale with the PPI company as it was ME who instigated it!0

You have no complaint against NR as they never sold you any product. That is one of the risks of shopping around on a DIY basis.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hi.
Two years ago I claimed for PPI added to Credit Card for many years from the 1990's. I would not have needed it as I had life and sickness cover supplied by my employer at the time. For some reason I assumed it was needed so the card application was more likely to be agreed.
The claim was rejected and NatWest sent me a copy of the application form highlighting that I had not put 'NO' in one of the boxes half way down the page where all the small writing is (which I cannot actually make out on the copy) so I had agreed to it. They also stated their staff supplied me with the relevant PPI paperwork (they sent me duplicate copies) and were fully trained. Stupidly I accepted this rejection and did not go to ombudsman.
I have read on various discussions that 'opting out' is regarded as unfair - 1) Is having to put 'NO' in a box to say you did not want it unfair? (It was in small print and not pointed out to me when filling in the form - basically skipped over). 2) Armed with a copy of the application form can I reclaim (2 years later) stating this was unfair?0 -

You get 6 months from rejection to refer to FOS, after that the bank can timebar it and you cannot open a new complaintSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

On Martin's FAQ's under Can I reclaim? He says you can reclaim 'If it's been over six months, the Ombudsman can't take on the case until it's been via the bank again. To do that, just file a fresh complaint with the bank using the templates if needed. Ensure you include any new information that you think affects your complaint and state why you're asking it to reopen the case'.
So I guess it rests on the original decision being unfair based on having to opt out.0 -
Hi all,
I have a friend who has a mortgage PPI policy and has only worked 5 hours per week for a number of years. Does this exclude them from the policy?
It said on the latest correspondence that they were working 16 plus hours per week so I think they would need to be doing this to be eligible?
Many Thanks for any replies0
