Hi wen clearing out I came across a ppi letter which I must ave filed away n forgot about so filled it in sent it off to be told I was outside the 3 yr limit to claim should I write to the Ombudsman and would I have a chance of a claim for leavin it so long

Unfortunately the FOS has a 6 month time limit for referrals, outside of that they cannot accept the case without exceptional reasons why you didn't and 3 years is way too long

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • We recently applied for PPI compensation relating to our Halifax mortgage. Pleased to say we were successful but when the letter came we did not recognise the last four numbers where the money was going to be sent. We had nominated our Barclay's joint cheque account.
When I rang up and after the security cheques the adviser confirmed that they were paying into our Lloyds cheque account (little used for my work expenses) We had not given them these account details and she confirmed we had nominated a Barclays A/C

I was then told they could not pay into Barclays (I find that hard to believe) and they had searched and found our Lloyds A/C. (Halifax is part of the same group)
Whilst pleased to be getting some money back I was livid that they were paying it into an account other than the one nominated with no explanation in their cover letter

When asked who higher up I could complain to was told no one. Reluctantly accepted payment to Lloyds to avoid delay. Sound to me like trying to keep cash within the Lloyds group. I am now thinking of shutting down all Lloyds group accounts

That is paranoia. They really do not care. The only advantage of paying into that account is that it avoids anti-money laundering checks and it is a known bank account.

Which you are free to do.

What complaint do you truly have here? The very minor inconvenience of having to transfer the money to your Barclays account yourself?

Put this behind you and just enjoy the redress you have already received...

    Quite rightly, too.
  • Why bother to ask you to nominate an account when you fill in the claim form if they won't pay it into that account.

9 times out of 10, it will be a bank account that is theirs. Who knows? Who cares?

minor niggle but no point wasting energy on it.

I'm certain your "revenge" of closing all Lloyds Group accounts will be very effective.. ;)

I'd demand £1m compensation for the inconvenience of having to log into a different account and transfer it over, that seems reasonable for the time you had to spend getting this fixed

This should also help if you still have the mortgage and say become ill and can't work or lose your job and are unable to claim on the MPPI because you said you didn't want it.

  • I have just received a payment from lloydstsb . i used a ppi company to pursue the claim.

Now when it comes to paying them. The amount i received is £20 less than what they are taking their 25% and 20% VAT on top.

When i asked them they said its from income tax and also said they had to take the VAT too?

Is this correct. Little bit in the dark.....
