  • hi,

by sheer accident i found out i have been paying £25 a month ppi to northern rock for the last 6 years, this is not something i wasnt offered or even told about when we took the mortgage ( and combined loan we took the together product) further to this my partner has pre exisiting condition which means it doesnt even apply. We orginally got our mortgage thro a broker a slater hogg. Is it worth trying to claim some of this money back considering its something i never agreed to ? (we have been with them for 6 1/2yrs )

and if i was to go ahead with this would it be nram or nr i would contact

    thanks
    hx

    Hi and welcome

As you know it is important to have mortgage protection, but like PPI for a loan, it should have been made optional, so if mis sold and maybe you already had cover in place to suit your requirements, then I would put in a reclaim on the PPI, so basically for whatever reasons you have, give it a shot.

    Good luck.

  • thanks for the quick reply , should i take this up with slater hogg as i orginally did the mortgage thro them or with northern rock/nram. i have to admit we were very young and stupid when we took this deal and took what we were told as gospel, my partner seems to think we were told because of our age and credit rating and the fact we were both at university at the time ,we would have to take the ppi or we wouldnt be eligible for the mortgage(however im not sure this was said as i cant remember lol)

    Your welcome.

Yes take it up with the broker who arranged this, however to cover your tracks here, I would also send NRAM a copy of the letter.

I would personally put this into a letter instead of a reclaim questionnaire with it being a mortgage ppi product.

You need to make them aware of all your reasons as you have done in your post, if this also applies to you, you could tell them that you assumed you had to accept the PPI sold by the broker because you were not told otherwise. (Give all reasons).

Ask them to refund all premiums of the PPI paid, plus relevant interest.
Then state that you expect to hear a decision by 8 weeks of the date of your letter, and if they do not resolve your complaint, you will consider taking further action ie: The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).

Hey don't worry, the main of us have been there.:D;)

    Good luck.

Try not to confuse reasons for loan and credit card ppi mis-selling with those for mortgage payment protection. It's important to realise that it would have been quite in order for the Bank to push this and they were under no obligation to inform you that other policies were available. It's only if your MPPI was not suitable for you (you couldn't have claimed on it, for example) that you can claim it was mis-sold.
Having said all that, if Slater Hogg sold you the mortgage protection it's to these that you direct your complaint.

    Thanks Amersall for your response.
I didn't make myself very clear on my post, i'm sorry.
I had several loans with Black horse, each one had ppi added to the loan and was paid as a single monthly payment over the term of the loan [hope this makes sense]

So the ppi was a separate payment and not included in the loan?, if it was then this was single premium ppi, Black Horse do not usually do this.
  • sorry just so im clear i should really be speaking to slater hogg about this rather than northern rock/nram? i would have thought it was mis-sold due to the fact that my partner has a pre existing condition (which they were well aware of as intially we took out policies for both life insurance and medical cover with them that were a fortune due to my partner having these problems) therefore ppi would be useless to us . my partner required two rounds of surgery due to his condition and was off work for 1yr and we struggled to pay the mortgage so i may be totally clueless here but i just dont see what im paying this money for (especially as i wasnt aware of it in the first place)

again so im clear i looked at my quaterly statement from nram and its listed insurnce premium payment every month , am i looking at the right thing?

so sorry for all the questions , just slightly confused here

No, we've already established (on another thread) that he was paying a single monthly payment and so had front-loaded PPI.
