I closed account of Santander credit card in 2010 and i destroyed all account details and card and i want to claim PPI and i called them on phone to lodge complain with my details they hold but they said we dont have any account details as you canceled in 2010 and you need to write to us.
After writing letter and I got reply from them in writing that "unfortunately we were unable to locate any accounts with the information that you have provided."

Its strange how come they have not got my account details when i provided all my personal details and address.
By law they should keep account details of minimum 6 years of closing account.

    Hi and welcome

Yes you are correct, they must still hold details of the account, and as this was only just 2 years ago, I would write back and tell them this.

I would firstly do as amersall suggests though, call into the local branch, they should check details out for you.

And with the link posted by amersall, they MUST comply to this by Data Protection Act (DPA), the link is to a subject access request (SAR), a letter to request for all data they hold on your account(s), they must comply by 40 calendar days with a one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order.

Any problems from there, you can threaten to complain to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

    Good luck.

  • Anyone able to help with some advice. This is my first time on a forum so I hope I am not breaking any protocol by jumping in with my own request. If so, I apologise.

My request is regarding Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance. When I took out a five year fixed rate mortgage with the Nationwide five years ago, I was provided with free MPPI for the first three months.

We were not advised at the time that our account would be instantly debited with the MPPI amount after the first three months and indeed how much this would be. However, we paid it, better to be safe than sorry!

This increased in the second year from £29.34 per month to £39.18. It was only in 2011 that we cancelled the insurance. I had contacted Nationwide in 2010 but was told that I would need to have other MPPI in place as it was a condition of the mortgage. When I finally cancelled, I quizzed the Nationwide employee and was told that I did not have such a condition on my mortgage and hence it was my decision to make, although warned me that it would be sensible to have some cover in place.

In total we paid £1,566.30 over the term of our Mortgage for the MPPI.

The advice I am after is, were we mis-sold the MPPI on the basis that it was included as a 'free-be' at the start of our mortgage and then automatically debited from our account at the same time as our mortgage payments.

Nationwide did very well out of us!!

Thanks in advance for your collective advice.

    Hi and welcome.

Here below is the link to a separate thread amongst the reclaiming of PPI, this way it will not get missed by the appropriate one's that should be able to help and advise in regards of mortgage ppi.
You can make a reclaim on the PPI if you believe it to be mis sold, but maybe Dunstonh & MagpieCottage will advise you further on this one.

Subject the title something like "Mortgage PPI help".

    Good luck.

Well done Noel on your success!

If the letter does not confirm, I would contact them to make sure, as it can differ from one bank/business to the other.

Maybe if they did confirm they were refunding towards the loan, ask if they will just do so by so much and if they will be willing to send you half of it because you have plan to (maybe pay off something else perhaps).;)

    Again well done!:T

Thanks Di it was a major shock to be honest. Will be nice to clear my overdraft, have a little shopping spree, and pay 3000 off my current loan ;) ........if they will let me of course! I will be calling first thing tuesday ha ha!
  • Hello. I had a loan last 2006 to start a business but it failed miserably so i ended up having a loan and credit card that i cant no longer pay so i found CCCS ( Consumer Credit Counselling Service) and they managed to help me have a debt management plan meaning i have been paying my debtors for what i can only afford. I know for sure that I have paid the PPI involuntarily but I do not know whether I will still be entitled to put a claim since I have stopped paying for the loan and credit card payment in actual amount I owe them. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you kindly!
